Im afraid that sounds about right . although you should get a touch over 5 mins.. the 1015 is fairly power hungry and doesnt help.

Get a more efficient servo and you should be fine. On my old car a got 6-7 mins from my NiMh bats, which was perfect, now of course I run LiPo.

Ansmann is a German battery brand that have started selling a lot of budget RC stuff in the UK.

If the car is brand new and has the supplied kit motor there is no way it should only last 5 minutes because that is not a very powerful motor. Really you should have at least 10-15 minutes runtime.

Are your 4200 batteries new or second hand? If they are second hand they may already be knackered. If they are new, make sure they are getting fully charged, they should be warm to the touch when they peak charge, sometimes you can get false peaks so if the battery is cold, start the charge again.

Another thing to check is that the car rolls freely when the motor is removed, if something is binding that will make the car slow, overheat, and run out of battery power quicker.

try the electronics in another car and see if its the chassis thats the problem. my bet is it's a combo of the servo, batteries and motor (those stock motors are really inefficient).

These cars are cheaper than the cheapest HPI. You get what you pay for and if you're looking for race equipment, you're barking up the wrong tree. The Daddy, being 9 years old, prolly got the car as a 'good intentions' starting point and he's burnt out with it. I hope he searches these sites and finds local people who can point him in the right direction. Same for you Dannyboy.

It's worth saving for good, reliable equipment that your local hobbyshop stocks parts for. Sadly, many of us had to learn the expencive way. I spent $110 on a Radio Shack POS before I found people who pointed me to Traxxas and Asscociated Off road cars back in 1990. Now I have shelves of cars thru the ages, all of which were quality pieces in their time and are testament to buying well. Mostly, they are Xrays with a bunch of Corally and Calandra chassis........

I hope you find your way into racing soon........

Yes its got bearings, no I don't think its overgeared, although ansmann plastics are known to be a little fragile.
