Hey guys,
Has anyone got any experience gearing a Tekin 10.5 with an SPX.
Ive been playing around with gearing/timing and struggling to find a sweet spot with it.
Im currently on a 6.7FDR on profile 8 and Ive added a little timing on the motor which gave me more speed, came off at around 179.6 degree F.
Im running on asphalt/rubber M/grip, medium to long track.

Any help with gearing/timing/profiles with this motor would be appreciated.

That gearing sounds high, have you played around with other gearing?

I know it doesnt help but I struggled in testing with the Tekin 17.5 to find a sweet spot in the FDR. I ran everything from 4.0 down to 3.4 and they all gave very similar times.

Very confused in the end.

I tried 6.2 +5.95 with a Duo 10.5 on 7+8 and it didn't get hot at all.
The lower ratio made the motor sound like it was hitting the sweet spot.

With a Duo 17.5 on #8 , 4.33 works for me. I wouldn't go below 4.

I run zero on the motor.

Regards,
Fleety.

Everyone here with a spx and a 10.5 is running around 6.5fdr with profile 7. I run a Fantom Ion2 17.5 with middle hole timing and 4.2fdr(30 tooth) profile 7 and its awesome. I really need a heat sink for my motor and i would get away with another tooth or 2 with temps around 60c all day. If your struggling with gearing, try something crazy. Crank the timing up and drop heaps of teeth and see how it goes. It cant hurt if your sensible IMO. I have run this duo combo with every pinion i have between 25t and 34t and although some gears are faster straight line having heaps of grunt down low and running out of steam at the 3/4 mark of the straight isnt a bad thing especially when the Spx can out brake just about anything.

Did you mess with the motor timing?

There's 3 timing adjustments on the Duo's, 10, 20, 30. Loosen the three screws on the pinion side and turn the sensor side so the middle hole lines up with the screws.

So there is.

I run 13.5 and mod more then 17.5 and never really played with it. It's in the stock location in the middle hole if that helps.

Then your good. The low timing is to slow and the high timing just creates to much heat, so the Middle hole is just right!!!

With Tekin 10.5, i run 6.1 - 6.3, program 7, and 8º timming, for long tracks (50m straight (160 - 170 ft), rubber tyres, temps around 75ºC (167ºF), without heatsink.
Setup of the car, is very important.

Greetings, Luis C.

That's what I wanted to know. I left my 17.5 in the first hole and experimented with profiles and gearing and didn't see any improvement. It's a new car and I'm still working on the handling. My local track closed and there's no where to practice.
Oh, I really like the lipo weights.
