great. thanks for the reply. i'll be getting an SPX when it becomes available here.

The SPX does work with a 1s LiPo, but it REQUIRES a receiver battery or booster to supply power, the SPX Speed Control MUST BE SWITCHED OFF, and the Battery mode MUST BE IN NiMH Mode, as LiPo mode is for 2s LiPo, not 1s LiPo. Failure to do these 3 things will make the SPX feel like a pig.

In my testing I found that the when the 1s LiPo dips below 4v, the LRP SPX goes into some kind of "safe mode" which limits punch and current to the motor. It almost feels like a 4-cell NiMH pack with a dead-cell.

On the other hand, I have a couple of Tekin RS speedo's that I'm going to try this weekend to see how they perform compared to the SPX. Don't want to get to the IIC in a few months with the wrong speedo!

kn, your post confused me. You give the solution for using an SPX, then you immediately say that it feels like running with a dead cell.

Tried with and with out a booster. Nicd cutoff not lipo. Yes, feels like im running 2 round cells. Definitly some kind of safe mode.

i think he's saying it's only slow when the battery drops below 4 volts. above 4 volts everything works fine.

i'll be trying this setup in my wgt car. spx, novak booster, 13.5, and i'm waiting for the new 5000 1cell packs to come out.

Yep, sorry bout that. Here's what I meant to say with the below 4v statement:

In my testing without a Receiver battery or Booster, I found that when the 1s LiPo dips below 4v, the LRP SPX goes into some kind of "safe mode" which limits punch and current to the motor. When this happens, it almost feels like you're driving with a 4-cell NiMH pack with a dead-cell.

Ah, ok, thanks. Let us know how the SPX+booster compares to a RS, and whatever else you can try.

Having tried an SPX in my Associated RC10R5 with 4cell I don't think it makes much difference over a standard ESC.

I wonder if the lack of voltage compromises it's attempt at upping the timing on full throttle.

Anyone else found this in 1/12 or WGT?

Yes - many people seem to feel that the SPX timing on Profile 7/8 is not as effective in 1/12 as it in in Touring Car, and is probably more so with the lighter weight of 1s LiPo 1/12 and lower voltage.

I can tell it does something on the stand, but not as much on the track. You have to go down in gearing to notice it, and it does not seem very effective in 17.5 Stock 1s LiPo 1/12.

Same here, but I am not sure it is voltage related.

Whatever it is , profile 6 with a dose of motor timing and a brave ratio choice makes the car fly. Gotta be steady with that throttle though!!

At WLRC I have -40% on the negative throttle on setting 7 already.
Must admit the main problem at the moment is grip, not power
