"There is signifigantly less drag and heat generated in a brushless, translating into a noticable torque and acceleration advantage regardless of where the RPMs are limited to."
This is my example of ONE of the major advantages of BL over a Brushed.

"Noticeable torque and acceleration advantage" Hmmmm.......sounds familiar. Oh yeah...everybody was saying the same thing as they ran to the shop to buy the "new" Revenge of the Monster. But i guess thats an ok jump in technology because its still got brushes.

as is mentioned the big advantage is no friction and thus less heat etc.. but the result of less friction and heat is increased run time not an increase in speed. now with that said a 27t motor over the 5 minutes slow because of the heat - the 4300 bl will not slow as much but will slow. if you are using desent batteries then this difference is minimal at best.
the BIG difference is no need to continually thrash on the motor. just concentrate on setting up your car and driving. oh its also not less expensive to race a bl. because you'll find that you buy more tires and hop-up parts for your car...

Just to maybe throw more fuel on the fire. Doesn't brushless also use bearings in the motor? A big no-no in stock class if so.
Why you may ask? Friction. Its the same argument that is the reason why folks are saying BL is should be a seperate class from them poor high friction brushed motor users as it will NEVER have the same performance characteristics of a brushed motor. There is the issue that some will hack their ESC and change the performance curve on their systems as well. You know that some would do it if they could.
My opinion:
Want to use it in a backyard beater? Can't beat it.
Want to use it in novice as you are learning? Most tracks will allow it or pretty much any motor, and I say again, go for it as its driving that will make the difference.
Want to use it in intermediate or above races? Run in your own class. Most tracks will run brushed and brushless together, but you race your class, not nessacarily all the cars that happen to be in your heat.
Still trying to figure out why all the issues on running BL's with BL's and Brushed with Brushed in stock classes. Want to run whatever you want? Run Mod then and be happy.
Otherwise till the OFFICIAL rules change you can butt your head into each other all you want, but BLs are illegal motors for stock 27T 24deg motors. Don't like it? Start a petition to get them allowed or their own official class.
The bottom line? Have fun. Can't run in whatever class you want? Have fun in what you CAN run at your local track. Have FUN. Don't like that? Have FUN. Start your own weekend races with whatever rules you want and if I didn't say it before have FUN!
