Default rc12l4_i'm new to on-road

i'm new to on-road and just picked up a rc12l4. i'm a nitro buggy racer and found out that were getting a indoor onroad carpet track by me. so i'm gonna try this out, more stick time never hurt! anyways can u guys give a fairly competitive electronic setup that will be all around reliable and fast but still won't kill the wallet. i'm new and prefer to stick with a brushed motor, regular esc and nimh batteries. i dont think i'll need a brushless system in this little tiny thing. like i said its basically just for fun and practice so i dont need anything over my head. thanks guys. looking forward to all the advice!!!
