Power capacitor behaving badly??

I've recently attached a 4700uf 16v power capacitor on to my MC800C speed control (polarity is correct) and have noticed something:

Whenever I connect up the battery to the speed conbtrol (hard wired) there is a small spark and an electrical noise - but everything still works ok.

Has anyone else noticed this with their power capacitor?

BTW I've used similar powercaps before with nothing like this ever happening...

please help...

That is normal

What you are seeing is the cap charging up. Just doing its job. 4700 uF @ 16v is a pretty big cap. Totally normal, mine does it too.

It should only spark the first time you hook it up. If you disconnect and hook up again it should still be charged. This is only if you do NOT run the car in between.

Its like an electrical accumilator.
