yes, might not even need to every run.

I ran my VTA car and only pull 1000 out of my 3800, so I'm only going to charge every 2 runs. But keep in mind, it then takes longer to charge.

This new technology crap is beautiful, buy in is steep but seems to be well worth it. thanks for all the help guys.
so I'm going all in, heres what I will have to start hb cylone tc, novak gtb, orion 3800 carbon edition. one more question is I have a m8 radio and wondering if it is worth it to buy the spectrem mudule or just get a new m11 with dss and pass down the m8 to my kid to play with.

Yes.

And like you, I just returned from 5 years off from racing TC cars. After all my research I ended up racing 13.5 rubber tire on indoor carpet. I only use one LiPo and just use it over and over. Waiting for the SMC 5200 40C to come out. I'll buy this as my second battery.

For electronics I went for well priced high end (used when possible)
Tekin RS ESC (you don't need the Pro) Used: $120
Trinity Duo 13.5/10.5 New: $65
Thunder Power 5000mah 40C (SMC is coming soon) New: $99
Futaba S9551 Servo New: $79
KO Helios with Spektrum module/reciever Used: $200

Chassis I picked up a Corally RDX Phi Used: $350. I think the Cyclone TC is the cheaper way ($359 new) to go and as competitive if you race rubber. Also the Associated TC5r, Xray T2 008/009, Tamiya 416WE, Shui Mi3.5, and Top's car are all good touring cars.

Also, all this works well if you want to run USTVA as well.

For chargers just get the Hyperion 6060 AC/DC with balancer. New: $149. You cant go wrong with that one. Or if you can't fit that in your budget $79 for the Duratrax Onyx 230 AC/DC is a great price (I use this charger)

Ok guys just a couple of more questions. I have what are a couple of options, I hope, to save money but not sure if is possible.
1) I have some of the old novak brushless motors and esc's,the 5800 and the 4300ss, is it possible to run the stock 17.5 motors with either of these? If not, will the mamba max esc run any of these motors.

I'm like you - slowly working my way up to converting everything over to brushless/lipo. Right now, I'm still running a Kwik 27T brushed motor, Promatch NiMhs, and a Novak GTX and can keep up with the guys with the newer stuff. If you had to choose one of the three things (ESC, motor, battery) to upgrade to first, I would do the ESC because then you will be ready to add a motor and batteries later since you will have the capability to run brushless motors and have an ESC with Lipo cutoff.

The main benefits, as stated above, are the ease of use and relative lack of maintenance of the modern electric equipment.

I was in the same boat as I got out in 2000, came back in/out 2006 and then back now again. Can't answer the brushless esc question but I assume as long as the old esc's were designed for brushless you could run the 17.5s. I would keep your radio and just get a spektrum or airtonics 2.4ghz module. I have my 10 year old M8 updated with a new Airtronics 2.4ghz and it works great. Unless you want a M11 I don't really see the benefit.

go for the DX3R from spectrum, it has all the features an m11 would have, plus it has the DSM2 tech, and it is a HECK OF ALOT LIGHTER, great for long mains!
The radio is great, since I got mine, i have had absolutely no glitches, lags, etc... before I would always have a thought in the back of my head about how my stupid FM might glitch. but now I never even really think about my radio, thats just how well DX3R works.

and it just looks cool
