Xmods?

Went to radio shack today, and saw a couple of their new xmods. Has anyone tried these? They look pretty cool, $50 RTR. Fully proportional control, takes standard tx/rx crystals, and upgrades out the arse such as better motors/gears, steel bearings, different springs, etc. You can even get an AWD conversion. My friend and I were thinking of buying one each, and trying them out.

Hmmm, there is a radio shack neer my school, I'll go and take my self a look...
Maybe to race some of the neighborhood cars..?

The best thing I see about these is, compared to Mini Z racers, or mini RS4's, theyre cheap. And upgrades are cheap too. I've got a pretty large patio too, not big enough for my 1/10 scales, but it would be great for these :)

1:28 scale BTW. They sell motor upgrade kits, in which comes a 'drift motor' Hehe, might be fun drifing these things around. Also, I could airbrush some cool GFX on the body. My friend and I might just have to start the first xmods racing team :)

I think I saw an ad for these in one of the major R/C mags, Xtreme R/C perhaps. They looked reasonably cool!

Los1Fan 11-12-2003 09:32 PM

they do look cool..prolly go to the shop tommorrow and check it out.....

I've got 2 of them, my son and I race in the house with them... I put the 4wd upgrade in both and min has the one of the stage 2 motors in them... They are pretty cool and the 4 AAA's run forever...

Nice little car!!!

I got one last week to run with my mini-z. Man i'ts a cool little thing. I think it's as well built as the mini-z except for the radio ( it works but it's cr@p). By the way, get a set of Tamiya mini 4wd foams for the rear and this thing will hook up great on carpet and hardwood flooring. My son and I run them together and the xmod with a red stage 2 motor upgrade is a little quicker than a stock mini z with the highest pinion gear!!

The only problem with these things is parts. Break a set of arms or crack a body and who knows if you can get replacements!?!?!:( http://www.rctech.net/forum/newreply...hreadid=26393#

Looks like Radio Shack wants a piece of the Mini-Z action. I wonder if we are seeing an emergence of a 1/28 class. This could be fun!!!

It took me a while to find this thread(on page FOUR!!!), but I finally got one! Accually I am on my second(first one had something wrong with the motor or something and had to take it back:flaming: ), but I finally have driven it, and I am amazed by how much power it has in stock trim... Right now I am running in my house on the hardwood floor, with the stock rubber tires(can you say DRIFT?!?!?!?!). On monday RS should have my 4WD upgrade in stock, so then the car would stay more planted.
Does anyone else have problems with a bad conection near the batteries? For some weird reason the car cuts out(like a hung brush), and will just stop. I installed some foam on the battery "C" clips to push the cells somewhat, and that seemed to get rid of the "bad conection".
Honestly, I HATE the rear suspension(for smoth track running), it seems like they just got lazy and did not want to finish the car...:flaming: Although the car is GREAT, why did they(who ever designed it) have to leave out the rear of the car?
For me, when I grab some throtle(on my hard wood floor) the weight is transfered to the rear, and the shocks are compressed(like a real R/C should), but as the weight sits there the arms induce camber. Making NO CONTACT PATCH!!!!! Making the car VERY loose on power. For this, I replaced the rear springs with "preload washers" and disabled all rear shock action. This makes the tire flat all the time(in the rear) and gives more rear traction(remember, hard wood floor).
Tomorow, I will do some out door testing, and see what is nessassary to get the car to hook up...
WOW, that was a long post...

The car seems to have better response with out the body(less of that excess body weight), which leads me to believe that a light weight lexan body from duratrax, or one of the 1/28th companies would increase performance, and increase runtime. Once I find one of these bodies I will try and see if there is any performance gain/loss.
The track I have laid out on the floor right now is easy, but the surface has almost NO traction, so maybe motor spray for softening the tires?...

What bodies do you guys have for your cars?
Mine is an Acura/Honda RSX/Integra, in silver.:D
