Would it be possible to use something like Microsoft Outlook Calendar for this? Anyone can go in, click a month and then schedule an event (appointment) showing the length of the race. When you are searching for someplace to race, you could see everything schedulued in blocks, each event showing in a different color. Click on the event and you will get the notes that show location, classes, etc.

I use Outlook everyday for work and it's very easy, plus you can use the "invite attendees" feature to send an e-mail to your racing budies. All they have to do is accept the invitation and it automatically loads the info in their calendar.

Just a thought.

Bob, great idea. We did this for a few years in Fla, but it became a pissing match... right... Try to do something for everybody, and someone has to screw it up... See all of the links popping up in this thread....

1 site in conjunction with RCTECH will do the trick...

RCSIGNUP is nice, but I think keeping it simple.... is what people are looking for on this...

Here's a quick run down on how it might work. Go to the Calendar, click a date, then click a State or Province. It brings up the results. Seems pretty straight forward. They mentioned they would have to find a way to keep the spammers and random stupidity off of it, but the idea is sound, and there seems to be a need.

It's not so much a 'where to race' calendar, as a 'when to race' calendar.

Talk is cheap. The word I got is a "few months" to get this organized... You know how that goes.
Just a thought but it might be a good way to get the word out about a new "where to race" site if the web address was included in some of the magazine ads. If there were a few "sponsors" willing to put a simple URL at the bottom of their ads more people would be able to find the site.

I think that racing by state would be great but a master list of major races and big races would be great. It would help the local tracks schedule around each other also.

While it's certainly not national, it does include many events in our (including Montana) part of the country. www.wyomingrc.com

I try to keep the calendar up to date with any event that is either national, or more importantly regional to us here in Wyoming.

Anyways, WyMoPA is on rcsignup.com, and I tried wheretoracerc.com, but found that one more cumbersome if I remember correctly (Plus managing our schedule on 3 or 4 sites just stinks). WyMoPA will definitely be using rcsignup again in '09.

I wish I could find out info for more of the races in the NW, especially carpet on-road.

The other one that would be nice, is if the ROAR race calendar was utilized more for events. Ie. giving the Track Administrator the ability to post races... would be extremely nice. Should have the sanction level (1-4), and any event posted as a 2 or higher gets moderation before going forth, plus for 2-4 events, the sanction # could be required.

Bob, you should run the site. People can get to it by the link of your main page. What a way to improve traffic to your site.

For the local cubscouts here we use the Yahoo Messenger Groups and use the calendar functionality. Well...I don't personally use it but that is another option.

we don't even have a universal track directory yet -- how do we think we can pull off a calendar? some tracks are roar members so are listed at roarracing.com. others post on RCTech so _we_ might have seen them before. then others don't post on RCTech, but instead have their own forum or use a local/regional RC Forum like www.wnyrcinfo.com or www.rochesterrc.com

i just threw together a brief list of tracks that i've raced at or wanted to race at this year. http://www.racerlog.com/wiki/RC_Race_Tracks. i'm not recommend anyone use my incomplete track list, but i believe a resource like this could be very useful especially since the 'community' to add/update the entries freely.

Bob I agree...I am on the road 300 out of 365. I travel all 48 states and have been frustrated as well. Especially when I end up in some state for like 4 days. Only to findout when I left there was a event nearby and I was bored out of my mind in my hotel room.

It would be great to have a site that has all the races and track locator all at your fingertips. If nothing else it would save alot of time finding stuff. If it helps draw racers to the tracks and hobbyshop it is a great thing.

If its any help to draw up a concept, here in the UK we have a central BRCA site with major BRCA races on... http://www.brca-tc.co.uk/

then we also have http://www.centralbooking.org/cbs/index.php which is closely linked to the BRCA and allows booking in for such events, including some regional races.

hope that helps

Don't limit it,
let it develop into a world wide thing.
It would have benefits for the whole RC World.
