So the Orion charger has voltage sensing leads ? If it does that is good as you should attach near the power leads to limit resistance as higher resistance will make the charger kick into CV mode earlier which extends the charge time.

hello. sorry to intrude. very new to serious RC and to lipos..

curious.
i currently own an orion 2400 lipo and have a dynamite lipo charger.
it says that it charges 2-4 cell lipos and has charge rates of 500ma, 1000ma and 2000ma

if i were to buy this smc pack

5000mAh 28c 7.4v Lipo
https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...&pn=SMC5028LDR

would my charger work for it?
if so, what mA would i charge it at?

sorry if this is a dumb question. i dont really understand anything about 20c or 40c or mA's or anything.

im guessing that more mAh and more C's are better but
this one is out of stock

With your charger, you'd charge it at 2000mAh...

Or 2 amps.

LiPo's can safely charge at 1C which is 5 amps on the 5000mAh battery.

The formula is like this: C x mAh / 1000 = current rating

so that means that ill be charging the lipo at less than half of what i could be charging it with?
therefore taking twice as long to charge it?

how long should it take to charge a 5000mAh at 1c?

5/2 = 2.5 hours

1C will take 1 hour to charge the battery.

Using your charger it's the 2.5 hour charge...

You don't need a better charger... But you'll likely want one

As for run times... I can't say... I'm using POS Elite packs, and they don't seem to dump early

It'll charge at 5 amps, yes.

It will also charge pretty much any other battery you have

I've heard bad things about the built in LiPo balancer, though. As long as you use a separate balancer you'll be fine.

I use the Hyperion EOSO606i and comes in ac/dc and or charge from your car battery for field use when no power available.

This will charge and balance your lipo without a problem. Been using it for a year now and no problems.

I assume they are sensor leads. the charger has the main + and - wires comming out of the charger, and then each lead has a smaller wire that ran with the bigger one and they were both attached to the clips at the end. I hooked the balancer up to the + - leads and disattached the smaller wirres. the smaller wires have now been attached on the output end of the balancers +- wires. did I do this right?

Hey Danny
Thats great! If SMC decides to make 1/8 LiPo's in 139mm. That way I
Don't have to modify my New RC8 conversion kit.

Hey Danny,

A couple of questions on the 4500 EFRA pack. Are you still going to submit it to ROAR for approval? I'd like to know so I can run them at the Nats in October. Second are the EFRA packs going to use the new chemicals mentioned in the first part of this thread that increase the average voltage?

Good Luck to the SMC camp in Florida,

Casey
