To realize the future of the future, one must look back to history's past.

The future of RC...

Well I asked myself that question 20 years ago, after much thought I decided there was only a grim future.

For the next 20 years RC carried on, in some ways very unchanged... sometimes actually cheaper and easier.

There are people across the globe who fall asleep at night thinking about RC, spending the day planning their next RC project, checking specs and prices and availability... Anymore, I don't bet against it's future, I'm just glad I'm around to see it.

The future of the future?

"Old Testament situations. Real Wrath-of-God-type stuff! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies... Rivers and seas boiling...Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes...The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!"

Yup, that pretty much sums it up right there.

my thoughts are electric based, but not onroad...

I expect to see 1:8 buggies that have been designed from the ground up for Brushless & Lipo to be a big step forward. Factory conversions like what Losi offer is a step in this direction, but they're still bolting electric parts into a nitro designed buggy. A true, fully optimized BL Lipo (Blipo) buggy design will be freaking sweet

These won't be a success everywhere, but could make strides in many areas...and in turn, breathe more life into all forms of electric racing.

my $.02

The future of the future is the day after tomorrow!

In all reality, I hope to see electric 1/8th based onroad cars. Tires that supposedly should not need to be changed every run to stay competitive with any pros. Electric fuel injection and tuning for IC engines. Racing with an in car wireless camera so that it can seem like we are in the car, with a setup to look around the cockpit via a gyro hooked to the apparatus that one wears (this has already been done, but would be sweet for onroad racing)

After a long talk with my magic eight ball it looks like there will one day be a traction compound as good as pargon but not stink.

The more things change, The more they stay the same! People will bitch about the newest thing and then say it's the saving grace of this Hobby. i.e. Brushless/Lipo remember all the talk about Lipo fires and such.

If we base our future predictions on Terminator... our rc cars will eventually become too smart for our own good (damn brushless esc's) and will kill us and take over... arnold will come back from the future as a 1/8" buggy and save us (as 1/8" buggies are all that's left in the future)

or we could base it on Back to the Future. In that case TC guys will go back in time and make things run on garbage hence... making TC cheaper and then it will be the future.... of the future. the only downside to this... is delorean bodies for all... well wait a minute... it could be worse... we could all be using mazda speed 6's.

Or I guess you could base it on Idiocracy... and in that case every one will get progressivly worse and worse at RC and we'll all be running traxxas RTR's.

Internal combustion engines will be non-existent in 5 years, grocery stores will be a memory, everyone will be growing their own food, water will be $5 for a 16 oz bottle, gas will be priced at what water is now................. it'll be a Mad Max / Waterworld type of living.

On the bright side, at least I've got a toy car that is hooked up!
