Default Starting Touring Car

I am not a noob in rc. I race Mini Z's and offroad nitro, but I want to start racing 19turn touring car. I am going to be racing on asphalt. I was thinking the TC5R but I dont like the idea of belt drive. I have only run shaft drive and have no experience with belts. Are they a pain?

How often do I change them?
Is there another touring car out there at a reasonable price better for asphalt than the TC5R.

What are the main differences between the original TC5 and the TC5R?

If you have any pictures of your TC5's please post them. Basic asphalt setups would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cody

i cant answer about the TC5, but i can say that belts arent as scary as you might expect..
sure, they'll provide some frustration for first time you strip one but with a 19T or lower powered car you should be running the same belt all year

i would guess by his avatar that he runs a tamiya 416

check out what the local track runs, what most people run is prolly what you wanna look at. most tracks also run stock, as opposed to 19t which admittedly will cease to exist come next yr. all a brushless world now. see what popular and make ur decisions around that. lots of good cars out there. but things like stock/superstock, rubber or foam, carpet or asphalt will affect ur decision. the tc5 the only thing i can say is that people complain heavily about the shocks. if u ever see a pit space with a touring car sittins on its side all the time or even on its bodyposts at a race, its prolly a tc5

good luck

Thanks man.

I would go to the track and see what the popular thing to run is but the season is over and I will be getting a kit for X-Mass so I need to make a decision.

I would rather buy new. I found a t2008 6 cell rubber edition for 400.00.

I also found the original TC5 kit for 280.00. I am stuck between the two right now.

Belt cars are all the the hots right now, there are some people that still love their shaft drive cars...like me

I think that the cars are equal, and a modern shaft car and a modern belt car will be equal with all else being equal. Some say there is torque steer in a shaft car, I don't know about that I have never had the problem.

There are not too many shaft cars to choose from now.

I didnt totally exclude the TC4 factory team from my list. lol

Looks like a pretty user friendly car, but has the adjustments to be competitive.
