There is very little maintenance required.

I have run brushless for some time now and the most I've ever done to a motor in terms of maintenance would be to open the can, take the rotor out and spray motor cleaner inside to get rid of any dirt/dust (or carpet fibres, depending on what you race on hehe). The bearings I've removed and replaced with ceramics and only re-lubed them a couple times in the last 12mths.

As for how long do they last, I'm not sure. I know that I ran competitively the same LRP 3.5T brushless modified motor for 12mths with very little change to its power/performance.

That being said though, someone I raced against who had a new LRP 3.5T (bought the previous day) and they seemed to have a bit more power than mine did. Why I am not sure, its possible that all I need to do is replace the rotor as it could have gotten weaker over time.
