Only have used the Novak 13.5 and the Orion 17.5 motors so far. 13.5 was blazing fast...and fun. 17.5 was a bit faster than 75% of the WGT cars.

Tried the Orion 2400 lipo as a compromise. Starts out strong; but, by half way through a 5-6 minute race it is down on voltage too much to finish well.

Last weekend, we had 6 guys running CRC Gen-X 10s with 17.5/lipo; so, that constitutes our own carpet class at NorCal Hobbies. A few more souls are expected to jump in with lipo powered cars. So, I can expect to get demoted in the standings pretty soon...

A very good former Xray racer, Kevin Woods, has returned to r/c with a Gen-X 10 too. He has already bested my fast lap time by 2/10ths...

Can we just stick with what we have for right now and not go changing it so much so soon? I like how 4C/13.5 is going at this point. I am getting into WGT and I have all the power things I need and I dont want to have to go out and get some LiPos already. Not saying they arent a good idea I just want to see this class stand pat right now and grow. I do think some people are acting like real 9 year olds over this issue though.

I don't think the "official" WGT rules will change anytime in the next few months. The reason I started this thread was to find ideas on how to incorporate lipo into this class. The WGT rules will stay as they are for large races and at most tracks (from what I hear) for the rest of the "indoor carpet season". In Ohio, the indoor season runs till early/mid April. however, I'm going to start running lipo/17.5 or 21.5 at my local track in January. I may also try single cell/10.5 once more testing has been done with that combination in WGT. I don't get the feeling people want to change WGT over night. We're just looking to the future and slowly trying to integrate change. Slowly meaning in the next year or two. Maybe someone will come out with a 19.5 motor to match the speed of the 4-cell/13.5 cars.......but for now I'm just gonna go racin'!!

ROAR already has the rules. As a club you can modifiy them. As for me I'm modifiying by using the 13.5 with the single cell where ever I go.I'm not buying another round cell for racing just for my tanks. You have a year before ROAR will change the official rules for this class.Just go out and have fun running what you have.Oh yes speed will kill this class as it did once before.

Not sure that lipo will ever "fit" into what is accepted as WGT; so, the name of this thread is somewhat of a misnomer to the unsuspecting topic cruiser.

Contrary to the two previous posts, I want to see lipo accepted in the near future for 10th scale GT pan cars...Not necessarily merged into what is currently called World GT...which is considered separate turf.

Let's keep a truce; and, not refer to lipo AND World GT in the same phrase.

Well here in Florida they usually follow what I do - it might take a year but they always come around.We got one guy running a 27 turn brushed motor with lipo. And now me with a single cell lipo and 13.5. Others are running a 4 cell with 13.5. It's a fun class for now in our series and we'll probably go with lipo and whatever motor we decide on for 2009-2010 series.Again ROAR allows you to modify your rules for our series. We lead and you guys can follow.
By the way brushless was started by me- 13.5 (in our series)!

SCAR stands for Spec Canadian Auto Racing.

This Class is being introduced in 2009 at the RROL Home Depot Asphalt Track in London Ontario Canada. A SCAR CRC GenX10 was tested at the last couple of races in 2008.

We have twenty cars signed up so far. We will also be running SCAR at Lou's Speedway, a new Carpet Track opening in the London Area in January. We'll have SCAR Road Racing as well as a SCAR Oval Class which will require the HPI Stock Car Bodies.

We will be awarding 6 Simpson Home Depot Helmets to the Series Champions including the Top 3 Rookies.

1/ 200MM Pan Car Chassis
2/ Minimum Weight - 1,000 Grams
3/ ORION 2400 LIPO Battery
4/ NOVAK 17.5 Brushless Motor
5/ Tires -SCAR will be restricted to JACO / CRC Spec Tires.
Jaco Part Numbers - JAC2100 Front - JAC2110 Rear
CRC Part Numbers - CRC2300 Front - CRC2302 Rear
6/ HPI GT Body - based on Street Legal Sports Cars - 47 to choose from. Cars must be Numbered and Lettered and you are encouraged painting it to resemble a real race car.

One motor and one battery should last you the 2009 season and perhaps beyond. No worry about having to buy the Motor of the Week or Battery of the Week. Concentrate on improving your skills without draining your wallet.

This is where all these arguments go belly-up. LiPo is NOT, repeat NOT, the future. All the major users of batteries might be trying to see what market advantage they can get from new technology, but no one in the automotive, power tool, or any other high-drain application, is doing anything with LiPo.

They are pursuing A123 and like technologies, Panasonic are looking to their own 2.4v/cell technologies, and rumours abound that Sony have something new on the stocks. LiPo is a simply way of people avoiding the problems wrought on us by IB a couple of years back.

You have the Rules - max 4.8v. If you want to try and persuade people to drop a volt, or have to buy new motors to use this technology, go ahead. But please - please - stop trying to sell it as the future. Nothing could be further from the truth as LiPo is, at best, a stop-gap.

My only issue with his is limiting the battery to an Orion 2400. You're basically forcing people to buy the Gen-X10 if they want to run the class as it's the only car suited to stick type batteries.

This is a silly argument. Of course something better will follow lipo. And something better will follow that.

This is like saying (for gas mileage anyway) that hybrid cars are not the future because something better will eventually follow them. But whatever follows hybrid is not the future either because something even better will come out after that!

Slower one.... very lame response. I thing every one is just trying to avoid with Lipo is having to packing around a CTX-D, Another Charger, and a Novak Smart Tray, and all the friken BS that goes with it.

This last weekend at SIR I ran WGT and the first charges on two of my older Energy 4600 went to 140 degrees, and sure made me nervous...


Regardles off the future, we have a current technology approved by ROAR and other promoters, and can be used in our TC',s.....
