I would highly doubt you'll see any torque steer with the motor. The torque steer in previous cars was mainly generated by the weight of a brushed armature spinning up. A BL Motor has very minimal weight to spin. If you hold an old brushed motor in your had and spin it up on a motor machine and rev it you can feel the motor try to twist in your hand. If you do this with a BL motor you can see a drastic difference. There is very minimal twisting. What is twisting is going to be offset by the twisting of the drive shaft in the opposite direction on the car.

At least this is how I view it and dealing with motors for a long time. Im sure Oleg can give a more technical explanation as well as soon as he has a moment.

thank EA, now you say it that makes a lot of sense. Maybe I will have to reconsider how I set the car up.

I am just trying to determine the benefits or losses I guess in my case of the different motor positions.

I've never got on previously with cars with longitudinal mounted motors so guess thats partly the reason I'm swaying towards the transverse position but as you have correctly mentioned that would have been with brushed motors which have very different characteristics

Hi Subliminal,

I have only run the car for one club day so far.

Our track is low grip ashfalt so my setup wont be much good to you. I suggest you build the kit to the standard setup as it seem it was made more for high grip surfaces (short upper arms etc).

In regards to the torque steer, it is non existant as EAmotosports said. Those days dissapeared with brushed motors. I ran and will be running the car in the longtitudal layout and have not noticed a thing.

Cheers

Ok so I guess my question is - What am I going to loose out on by running the car with the transverse motor postion in say 13.5. Is it just purely making sure I can hit the ratios I need need with raised internal ratio or am I missing something.

Cheers guys

The biggest downfall will be that you will not be fully utilizing one of the biggest advantages of running this car in stock. The insane efficiency of the the simple longtitudal layout. Adding 2 more gears to the drive train will decrease that advantage you will have over all the belt driven cars slightly.

The advantage is not so apparent in modified as it is not a big power class. I run modified and the one thing i noticed power delivery wise was how instantly the car responds to throttle input.
