Hi , first time I have heard of only running 2x of the spider gears.
Are you finding that you still need to shim the main gears?

when running metal gears w/in the GD1, i don't ever re-shim.

when you install only two of four small satellite gears you will produce the smoothest possible GD1 diff with metal gears. to offset the removal of two gears, you must increase the thickness of your diff oil to have the same overall feel. i believe 5K CST w/ a GD1+2 gears feels like it is softer than 3K but harder than 2K in a GD1+4 gears

there is no good way to mount a shorty pack on the 'L' chassis. this can be done easily on the 'EX' chassis.

a shorty is 202g, a mod pack is 280g, a stock pack is 330g. this will likely just make one size of your car super light/off balance.

The L doesn't have stock mounting options for a shorty pack. The EX chassis does with the option to put the servo in front of it.

Also, shorty batteries do not have the horsepower big packs have...

The higher mah battery you run the longer your battery will be at a higher voltage while racing. The higher the volts the more punch/power you will have. In stock this is big in mod not so much. So unless you are trying to drop weight in the car there is no reason to pick a shorty IMO.

Not quite true !!! In stock 17.5t a 3300mah TP(208gram)) pack is very competitive with any other overweight pack out there..... I've tested tp5300 packs vs the 3300's and there was no real difference at all after six Minutes..... It's the myth that they use to get your money !!! LoL.....

Have you compared side-by-side with sanyo 3300 product?

I am not saying to get some 10000mah pack that will make your car overweight for stock racing, but I am saying if you use the larger MAH pack that you should have more volts going to your motor then a lower pack toward the end of the race. So I would run the largest MAH pack you could get that keeps you at or under weight.

Simple test is to run your 3300's and then see what the voltage is at the end of a 6 min run. Then run your 5300 for the same time see what your voltage is after and compare the 2. The 5300 should come off with higher voltage then the 3300, thus theoretically you have more volts or power going to the motor...

So I would just save that 3300 for your 2.5 mod car since it must be awesome.

If you are not consistent driver and spend a lot of time hitting crap then the little gain of the higher MAH/Volts won't make a difference anyways... I don't know your driving skills but maybe that is why the 3300 is the same at your 5300 or maybe that pack is not very good.
