There was another racer running the smc in the 1/12 genX.

Booster I was using is the one from HobbyKing -
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=7884

everything worked really nice, had full servo speed and transponder power for the full 8 minutes.

With the tekin RS, you have to wire in another mini switch off the + and - on the esc into the booster and than the booster into the reciever. Long story short you are suppling the reciever with 5v, and anything else down stream from there, ie servo and transponder. With the tekin you leave the speedo switch off and tuck it away somewhere. Also used the 189 software/profile.

I was a little sketptial at first about all this, and it sounds like a big hastle, but it is really not that bad, and worked really nicely.

I have some pics to post if anyone is interested, just dont make fun of my wiring "jungle"... lol

hope this helps.

It does fit in the Gen-x but you can't use the stock locations of the battery holder. I had to drill 2 new holes in the chassis.

No booster, Losi micro-t lipo as receiver pack with voltage regulator.

Carter

I used Shoo Goo for the SMC cell and then I found a old servo wire and soldered the pos & neg (white wire not used) wires to the ESC pos & neg. Then plug it into the booster. I did not put a on off switch in. just plug it in when your ready to race..

Thumbs up

Hey, Thanks for the help guys!!!!!!! Some pic's would be great. We run 3 (8 min.) qualifiers and an (8min) main in about 3 1/2 hours, is 1 pack enough??? with charging required. I am currently runnig a novak 10.5 but I will be going to a lower turn brushless motor. I am currently running 4cellNIMH. I have a GFX charger that I am going to send in for the "lipo" upgrade, but I would like to buy a smaller A/C charger to take to the track, whats a good choice. I will be charging lipo packs as well for Pro 10 and also touring car.

If you're running 10.5 or lower in that kind of timeframe I would recommend getting two packs. This way you can charge at a reasonable current 4 to 5 amps is about all that you want to go if you want the pack to last a long time.

thanks for the link -

Looks like Novaks 1Cell lipo Step up module wont be released until the end of the month... Ugh!

Does SMC have a reccomendation to hold me over until Novak decides to grace the 12th scale market with their module? I'm running the GTB 4Cell with SS, and Novak 17.5bl -

Try the GTB 4 cell without a receiver or booster. I am able to run 8 minute 13.5 races with no problem like that.

Around me this lipo thing is begining to loose some of it's steam. Guys are selling off and switching back to NMH batteries. With the newest batches of batteries I believe they are very stable and hold up well to abuse.

personal transponder

our paved tracks here in aus are low traction but we are making 8 min without going soft at all.

To those that are running this without a rx pack or booster - are you soldering in any in line power switch? Are you noticing any heat issues? ESC or Motor? What gearing are you using?
