Hey guys, I've seen some vendors say that you can charge these packs at 2C... is that true?

I've charged em at 1C normally, with a bump up to 1.5C if I am really crammed for time inbetween heats.

Whats the SMC official stance on this. is 2C OK but not recommended for cell longevity and capacity... or is it specificly forbidden?

Well if you ever plan to race at any ROAR events, or tracks using ROAR rules, 1C charge rate is the highest you can charge your packs at.

All that means is everyone will need at least two packs and one Li-Po Sac (lol) per car. Lets just hope no one engineers a way around the 1c rule. Best for everyone and everywhere.

I have just noticed that RC Market have a SMC 4900mA 1 cell LiPO in stock.
Has anyone used this pack yet?
May have to change the title of this tread so it is for any / all SMC 3.7V packs as there is HEAPS of GREAT info in here they all should read.

I've talked to Danny about this and although there label says you can charge at charge rates up to 2c Danny still recommends charging at 1c.

Charge rates over 1c don't get you any performance enhancements, just a faster charge. In some cases it degregates performance by reducing the number of cycles you'll get out of your lipo. The higher the charge rate on the current batteries and the more damage is done.

Puff the Magic Lo-Po
raced on a track...
he ran like hell for a month or two
then puffed out centrally.
I could go on but its pointless...

It would be nice to have a bit of a compromise on this and limit to 5 amps or something. It can take a pretty long time to charge at 3.6 or 3.8 amps.
