The car is light, and there is a ton of power on tap, but the truth is I'm not sure it's really faster overall than 4 cell super stock. It wants to get airborne at times. My car is weighing in at 740g with a 160mah rx pack. Between runs I was putting about 2300 mah back in. The motor was coming off lukewarm at 8 minutes.

To say the least, there is ample opportunity for running a ballistic missile lipo version of 1/12th scale. I'm not convinced this is a "slow-the-class-down" proposition, even at 4000 mah capacity.

On a different note, I put a lipo in my T-Fource with a 19t. Balanced and butter overall, though the 19t definitely draws the amps. Geared at 65mm rollout it runs like a fast stock motor. Handling is superb, maybe better than my 12R5, though I want to try a brushless rig in it when I get a chance. This cell form factor is absolutely t-bar friendly, there is no need at all to wait for saddle packs. Picture attached.
Sweet, I'm glad it works.

I bet that's the heaviest receiver at your track though

How close does the body come to touching the battery? I allways run a speed 12 and its very low at mid chassis.

Just curious. What servo are you using in your car? I wonder if switching servos may allow me to run without a rx pack or booster. The specs on my servo specifically say 4.8v to 6.0v, so I've been looking for servos that may work at a lower voltage.

Don't worry about the servo specs. They pretty much all say 4.8 - 6 volts. The servo works fine on the single LiPO cell. It may be a hair slower, but it's very slight. My JR3650 runs fine at 3.6v (I don't have a 3.7 LiPO yet, getting it this weekend) just a tick slower than on 4 cells. I can not really tell the difference on the bench, but I haven't driven yet at the lower voltage so i can't say there's no difference in feel...

A few of us have tried the 3.7v pack without a booster or rx battery and the servo does become sluggish and sometimes it will not center. I think you may change your mind after you run the car and put some load on your electronics. I'm wondering if someone has a servo that works well (for 6-minutes) without a booster or rx pack.

I might get to try the 3.7 LiPO as soon as this weekend. I'll post any results if I do get the chance to try it.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think kwikvdub is running the JR2650 in his LiPO car... I know he has that servo in his 4 cell car...

For proper radio operation you will need a booster or a flight pack. Yes some radios will work but for the insurance .. atleast get a booster .

+1 - or run a receiver pack. It's not any more work and it all fits. I just don't have good enough luck to chance a receiver working glitch free on 3.7v.

I think the Futaba 2.4 receivers are more sensitive to the low voltage and voltage drop than the spektrum micro rxs, based on shenanigans witnessed in nitro on-road with aaa rx packs. I also had probs with spektrum too but futaba was much worse and all probs were resolved with lipo rx pks and regulators ironically.

Default Tried the lipo tonight

Hi all.

I tried the lipo in an assoc 12r5...with a 360mh 7.2volt lipo pack to a 6v regulator..running a Tekin RS-Pro esc with an Orion 10.5..
8 min. heats, tight, on off out door tarmac....
Was a lttle slower at top end..but in the infield it was better than the nimh 10.5 cars( suspect lighter car?) came in at 695grams.......made 8 mins..took 3100mah...reciever pack took 165mah...
Got a ratio of 88/36.64pitch..need to gear up 2 on the pinion?...
Wont fit...Where can i get a smaller spur..say 65 in 64pitch or 50 in 48pitch? motor temp peak is 125Deg F.....Coolish night..20 deg C....

Over all.. I and everyone was very happy with the cell.
works on our tight track where you are not on full throttle all the way. Dont know if it will work at the larger outdoor nitro track we run on as well. more full throttle..need more mah to run the taller gearing to match the nmh cells...
my thoughts..
mike

Mike, Precision Racing Sytems has spurs from 72 on up in one tooth increments. They can be found here. These are the smallest spurs that are out.
