tc5 gearing question

hey guys, if im running a 96 tooth 64pitch spur 10.5 brushless motor on a tc5-then what should be the best pinion to start with?

thanks!

what motor and how big is the track?

10.5 motor-the track has about a 140ft back straight--i say about a medium size normal all around track.

go to ... gearchart.com .... get yourself a gearchart then gear to around 4.5 fdr to start with and go from there check your temps and stay around or below 160 degrees.

If you are running rubber then start at a 37 tooth 64p pinnion which will give you about 38mm roll out. these motors work good around that gearing. on a large track and cold day gear up. but 38mm roll out will be the minimum to run. but if foam then you need to check tyre diameter so you can get the gearing right rubber is always around 64mm but foams people run down as low as 56 i think which changes gearing a lot!! multiply your tyre diamtere by 3.1416(pie) which will give you a large number. Then spur divided by your pinion, times by your internal ratio(tc5 is 2.0) which = FDR (final drive ratio) then get the large number and divide by your fdr and you will get your rollout which never changes. thats why i recommend rollout start at around 38mm on 10.5 for speed passion!!
