Default Novak GTB Competition Brushed/Brushless vs LRP Sphere

Has anyone used the
Novak GTB Competition Brushed/Brushless Electronic Speed Control?

Does it compare to the sphere?

Akhor,

The NOVAK GTB brushless Speedo is incredibly durable, easy to use, easy to set up and in the event it does ever have a problem, NOVAK has great customer support.

I run both NOVAK and LRPs, I currently have 7 Brushless ESC's

2 LRP Sphere
1 LRP Sphere COMP (06)
4 NOVAK GTB's

ALL of them are nice units. The LRP's are a little more compact since they don't have the FAN or HEAT SINK on them - 2 of my NOVAK's have had those items removed and have a flat aluminum cover instead.

I run them in OVAL cars and in my TOURING cars.

(NOTE: I do see a little different RPM with the LRP Sphere Comp - enough so that I normally run about 1-3 teeth lower on the gear ratio) I've been told it's because the LRP Comp version has a different timing setting.

Things are headed towards a return of the SWT Series, but for
2017 the focus will be on the Encino Velodrome (and dirt oval racing)

Questions?? Brushless

My son and I are just getting into the RC world and need some help. I have had a few rc trucks way back when. I am looking to get both of us a race car but need to know brushless or not. Also, what would be a good car for us to get into the race with?

the LRP is a bit smoother than the GTB. i use the LRP sphere comp 2007 in my T4 (2WD staduim truck) i tried the GTB for offroad use and it was too punchy.(too much wheel spin). in my touring car the GTB works better(Corally RDX) it has the punch i need to get me out of the corners quickly.

it depends what you want to race... onroad or offroad. it also depends on your budget. if you dont mind spending extra go onroad touring. if you want onroad but dont want to spend that much...go 12th scale. 2wd offroad in my opinion is by far the cheapest. 1= the cars are durable. 2= you dont have to spend alot in tires. 3= it's easier to set up. the only downfall to offroad is requires better skilled driving and patience.(which means it's harder for beginners). brushless/lipo batteries is the way to go for worry free maintenance.(no cutting coms or changing brushes.or soldering battery packs and charging and discharging/equalizing battery packs).brushless motors and lipo batteries are almost maintenance free.they will give you longer run time and lasts longer. basicly plug and play.

I run the Nosran Evo 07 which is an LRP in a red case and have to say it is just slightly better than the GTB. However after the recent spate of Nosram and LRP failures/problems that i have seen at my club and at national events i'm afraid i would have to recommend the GTB as this seems to be the more reliable esc in my experience.

just my 2cents

Electric on-road is definatly not the racing class to start out in for many reasons but I would have to say that the sphere is better than the GTB even though I run a GTB myself.
