I ran a CO27 at 28/88 with a mid size tire and I was happy with it even though I could have pulled more gear on a clean run. (road course of course)

A decent rule of thumb is 2x the rollout that you would run with a CO27. For example, like John Tag suggested, we used to run a rollout of 1.80 inches (~45.72 mm) with a CO27, and we're running around 3.6 inches (91.44 mm) with a 17.5. Try something around that and then adjust accordingly for your track. Check lap times and motor temps.

A 3.6 inch rollout is 1.75 inch tires, 78 spur, 51 pinion.
