But how come it's a bad idea? Im not going to any spec f1 race anyway.
Im building it as a street dragster and found that the stock sponge tyres
are not appropriate to my application. I was going to use Ride Tyres and
Rims but our LHS wasnt able to get one. So my last option would be
the F104 rubber tyres and rims. But to use that I have to change some
parts.

-F104 front sus arm parts.

-F104 front king pins,they are a special size compared to all the other king pins used on the F103,F103GT and F109. So I wont be able to use F109
kingpins? Will it come out short? Or too long?

-F104 servo mount,the F104 arms mount under the servo mount unlike the F103/F109. Yes Im going to get the D-Parts

-2-5mm ball ends. I have spares from my TA05R

-2-5mm ball ends,that mount on the end of the rear servo mount screws,there are different. Ill get a couple of extra ball ends just in case.

-Shorter tie rods as the F104 is narrow compared to the F109 and F103.
I think I still have shorter turnbuckles laying somewhere.

-You also might need two longer screws for the rear servo mount,and the front screws if i remember correctly are also longer than the F109/F103.
I know where to get this.

-Of course you also need the tires and wheels.And the front bearings.
Im going to buy all of the above just because of these. So much cash
thrown to this kit...

-You also might have problems with the rear ride height as F104 wheels are taller that the F103 size wheel. With the F103 you can use spacers under the gear box to raise it up to lower the rear ride height, but can you do that on the F109? The axle height adjusters are not enough the get the rear ride height low enough. The F104 uses a taller gear box than the f109 to get the axle higher lowering the car. Yes, the F109 kit includes ride height adjusters.
Im targeting 9mm+ ride height to add more body roll and to clear small
street debris

-You can use your F109 uprights on the F104 sus arms so you do not need to buy them. Thanks for telling me.

Its basically a bad idea as you would be losing a lot of rear grip. And Tamiya rubber F104 tires are not that grippy for street bashing.

Have you thought about capping your sponge tires with rubber? Its not that hard to do.

Wont it be more grippy than the stock f109 sponge tyre? Even sa soft one?
I just bought the hardware for conversion but went back to the office.
Soft compound for the rear and hard for the front.
Tonight Ill try it out. Any idea if the rear tyres of HPI F10 fit the F104 rims?
They say it has the best grip.

I might pick up a mint Tamiya F201 and was hoping I could get some help.

What spares should I get if I do pick up this car? I will be racing it with a 10.5 brushless setup (In an open class that has mostly touring cars).

Also, does anyone have the 3Racing chassis kit for this car? If so, what clearance is there for the battery? My Lipo hardcase batteris are 139mm long x 46mm wide x 26mm tall (Turnigy 5200mah 2S with rectangular case)and I want to make sure they will fit. I know they will not fit the stock chassis.

Will the HPI F10 soft rubber tires work with standard Tamiya F201 wheels?

My F201 has been pretty sturdy. I would recommend a set of the aluminum locker arm set. The rear locker arms on my F201 are the only parts of the suspension that broke from a previous crash.

I measured the clearance of the battery area. My F201 retained the stock Tamiya battery hold-downs with the 3Racing chassis kit. I measured the space to allow L:135mm, H:25.5mm, W:48mm. The tricky part is the molded plastic battery hold downs - they are designed for a shotgun tube type battery pack.

I was on RCmart and noticed that the Shimizu rubber tires work on Tamiya F103 wheels. Aren't they foam wheels? Is this right?

the f103 rims have to be rubber tire rims to work with the shimizu's, the formula 10 wheels and tires are interchangeable with the f201 so far everywhere i've read. anybody know what currently available bodies fit the f201 without much hassle?

Hey all, I saw this posted on Tamiya’s website and thought it would definitely fit some of the people in this thread. It looks like Tamiya is having a build contest for R/C F1 cars. I know for a fact you guys have cars that fit the bill.

The prizes look pretty sweet…I’d love to get a Wolf or Lotus kit.

I guess it depends upon what Shimizu tires and what 103 wheels you are talking about. The Shimizu rubber tires I had mounted on the F103 foam wheels.

If you are purchasing Shimizu rubber for the F103 from RcMart then buy the TRG rims designed for rubber tyres. Rear is part TRG2203 and front is TRG2105.

There are also Ride rims for rubber tyres on RcMart but the TRG are better quality.
