The car has a traction roll problem coming off a high speed straight to a tight right hand hairpin. The car will traction roll mid corner off throttle or on. The only way i can make the corner is to brake way early and slight power on entering the corner all the way through. If i kept the same corner speed as the competition I would roll for sure.
Everywhere else on the track mostly on throttle the car hooks up, steers and is generally very good. My set up is 5mm ride height rear, 7mm ride height front, 3mm front droop (uptravel), -1 degree front camber, 1100g total weight with 3800 2s lipo positioned in front of esc in chassis.
Glue both sidewalls up to the tread line on the front, even a little over on the outside, and glue the sidewalls up to the lettering on the rear. You can add a 1mm sedan hex shim under the front suspension arms on the 4mm screws to help get the front end down more. You probably have too much front droop as well.

I would also run fairly heavy fluid on the damper discs, like 30,000-50000 wt oil.
Take the center screw out of the t bar, and use a small foam piece like you would put in the bladder of a tc shock to keep the t bar even..look at the link
http://rcf1blog.blogspot.com/2010/12/f104-tbar-mod.html
The black t bar is probably good, but the center adjusting screw introduces a goofy flex point to the t bar.

The Speed Passion chassis have been been preordered, and I will be offering an F1 starter package, hopefully keeping the price around $400, all you would need to bring is a receiver.
I have one of Mannys awesome vintage bodies, I will be painting it up soon, and I am working on doing decals and paintmasks as well

Can't wait to see the result. I hope we will see more of those classic chassis painted.

I forgot to mention that once is up and running with his production run, we will be carrying the bodies in the store as well.
I am thinking that I will do a Gurney Weslake with the one that I have.

Ned might fight you over that, Brad. You know he's a big Gurney fan.

Hey Shadow!, I already have a few guys who want to race these VF1 cars, and we are going to want to do the Lotus 49, the Gurney Weslake, the Ferrari, possibly Honda and Brabham as well. Are you going to produce the decal sets for these cars? I sure hope so, as your decals are awesome! I know that D Drive used to sell the Lotus 49 decals, but D Drive seems to be gone now, so I hope you can do all these different decal sets.

+1, definitely Gurney's All American Racers. Tried to look for the original AAR Eagle but couldn't a decent one to convert to a jpg file.

I have been doing some quick searches on the web and it is almost impossible to find any retailer that sells the original F104 with the FRP chassis anymore. I would like to use that chassis for my VF1 car as opposed to the F104 VII, because (1) It's cheaper, and (2) I think the FRP(fiberglass) chassis on the original F104 will generate more chassis/mechanical grip on asphalt than the super stiff graphite chassis on the F104 VII.

Hi guys,

thinking about taking a step into F1's and was wondering if someone could list what brand/chassis are available, maybe some pros/cons too? i'll be running outdoor asphalt, 21.5 and rubber.

All i know of are the Tamiya F103 and F104 and that one is 10mm wider. are these old versions that are likely to be updated soon?

cheers

I believe any of the f104's that is not a version 2 or pro come with the FRP chasis.

Did you see the F1 racing at Kambah last weekend?

For an Oz perspective, check out http://www.rcformula1.com.au/

Like most things RC, it's largely a question of preference/style - there's lots of good options and each of the major brands are supported in one way or another locally. The F104 was the logical successor to the F103, but there are still plenty of F103's getting around in good shape. Tamiya keep on iterating/fine tuning/blinging the F104 platform.

Most important thing to get right is your tyres
