You're right.

But don't forget the 79 is made in hard plastic, like a 1/20 model, so they can have more room for detailing it.

The original 79 (I mean the lexan one from 1979...) is way less sexier than the plastic body.

And secondly.... the Lotus 79 is one of the most beautiful car ever built since day 1....

Giorgio, like you I am a huge Lotus fan! I go all the way back to Jim Clark, my alltime favorite driver. My father(a fellow Scotsman from Glasgow) saw him race and win the 1962 USGP at Watkins Glen. He bought the paperback book "Jim Clark at the Wheel" which I read cover to cover as a young boy; and that started my love affair with racing, F1, and Lotus and Jim Clark.

I love your piece on the Lotus 80, and I like the job you did on your rc version. I always wished that Lotus had kept on with JPS in 1979. I would love to see what the Lotus 80 would have looked like in the gorgeous JPS black and gold scheme instead of the green Martini livery. I think in the JPS colors it would look much better, especially without the wings as Chapman originally intended. Without the wings it was very sleek indeed!

Oh well. Nice to see hear from a fellow Lotus fan who appreciates the history of F1.

I'm putting the Pan F1 back together for giggles. So far so good. I still need some really long screws, HPI 40mm, to pass through the chassis, some spacers and the back of the servo mount to anchor the trailing arm. Next step is to put tweak springs on the pod and switch from microshocks with springs to CRC damping tubes. Here are some shots of the front end for your viewing pleasure. These were the parts I was going to use on the FGX. They just didn't look right, so I went with piano wire on that one.

When using the Pit Shimizu tires, what is everyone doing with the inserts? Are you supergluing them together? I superglued mine together but that leaves a hard spot in the insert. I had a set I didnt glue and ended up with thin insert bunched up in the wheel after a while. Talk about bad handling!

Use a rubber cement or kit that stays flexible.
That will do the trick and won't come loose.
If you want a hard insert, use a foam tire trued to size.
Done this with M03 60D tires and that worked like a charm.
Could drive the tires untill the canvas was comming true before they ripped to pieces.

anyone got any suggestions for glue for rubber tyres?

I managed to rip my rear left tyre straight off the rim during a sweeper earlier today.

I have been waiting for the word to be able to announce this.
And now that I have been given the go ahead, I am very proud to announce that F1Paintlab has been chosen to be the exclusive US Distributor for the Formula Rabbit conversion kits. The first shipment is due to arrive today, 10 kits. I will have them up on the online store later this weekend.
