Sorry, i didn't mention it but I mean with the f103 tires. The f104 width is not something for me. And still shims on the kingpin is not what I am looking for lol. On asphalt ride height adjustments are more than with 1/12 indoor, they shave the tires off 2mm before the rim (if that is what you mean by 2mm max with your 1/12?)

There's also 3rd party steering blocks that allow shims to be used. I've worked with the TRG ones.

That said, you're not going to be able to get down to the rim with the stock F103 rims, regardless of front suspension. Their diameter is simply too small.

Do any of the Tamiya F201 (4wd) bodies fit on any of the Tamiya 2wd F1 chassis?

It is my understanding that the length (wheelbase) on the F201 is longer than at least the F103. I know that there was a long wheelbase F103 (Indycar) that the F201 bodies might fit on.

I just have a few unpainted F201 bodies that are taking up space. While I do have an F201 chassis, I have enough bodies for it since I don't race that car any more.

I feel the stock F103 front end is pretty much perfect for the job. You can do ride height adjustment for the F103 front end, with a bit of grinding. i would say the camber is perfect on my car as the tyres wear flat.

I have a 3racing f109, which uses a f103 front suspension.
If you have a f103 you can buy part numbers (from TQRC Racing):
(1) F103RM-10 (Front Suspension For F103RM-10 Adjustable camber arm)
(2) F103GT-28/V2/LB (Adjusable Front Castor Mount Version 2 For F103 with F103RM-10 suspension)

This will allow you to have adjustable camber & castor and are a direct fit on the f103.

Since that is an F104W but with F104 tires, you might have some issues with a 200mm front and 180mm rear width.

but that is the problem I am having with the f103 supension. To grind something and/or use shims on the kingpin for simple ride height adjustment when it can be done so much easier when looking at 1/12 scale ride height adjustments. The 1/12 wheels are roughly the same diameter. But... maybe it is just me that feels wrong with the current ride height adjustments for f103 front ends lol.


I have a f103rx, f103lm and a f103lm-trf. If I could find a way to cut off part of the middle section to lower the overall profile of the suspension then it would be to my liking. I don't know yet how to cut that off and still be 100% horizontal. Also, the locaters that fall into the chassis will be cut off. With only 2 screws it will probably move a lot when it hits something.

Anyway...I will first see what Serpent comes up with. It seems they used a 1/12 front suspension with longer arms. It would be more to my liking.

I thought the F103 front was a 200mm with the F103 tire? Wouldn't the F104 tire make it wider than 200mm? Or is the F104W front different?

F104W uses a F103 front wheel. But I believe both the F103 and F104 front wheels have the same off-set so the difference in overall width is in the suspension arms.

We drove the McLaren/Honda for the first time last night. Once we got the steering throw calmed down (thanks Brian!) and the differential adjusted, it wasn't bad. Here's a overheard photo of the actual spread situation front and back.

Does Tamiya make a longer rear axle assembly? I wasn't able to find anything online. We have to use Tamiya parts per our rules. No aftermarket allowed.

I could get another set of the wider tires from the Wolf WR1 for this one, and that would solve the spread difference for sure. And, now that I've got the Wolf WR1 differential working and some weight in the back end, those wide tires are doing much better on the track and hooking up decent.

No they don't...the F103 and F104W use a wider rear rim which makes up the difference in width overall. Problem is the F104W uses a huge rear tire which there are very few aftermarket options for and typically Tamiya stock rubber tires work very poorly. You could go to the F103 rear tire but there are a couple of issues there. First the F104W rear pod is taller than the F103 so getting enough rear ride height with F103 tires will be near impossible. You'll need to change out the pod plates with F103 ones to get ride height back. The other issue is the F103 rubber tires are really old compounds that really didn't work all that great back in the days they were used. As far as I know, no one makes the same compounds as the F104 tires in a F103 size.

In the main event video, at 47:40 into it, there is a glimpse of the F2012. Guess I'm not getting one unless it has a removable nose. And I'd prolly cut the piece shorter where it goes from the nose to front wing. Then it wouldn't be realistic.

Wished they released a 2011 body or wait until February 2013 for the new F1 cars to roll out (with rule changes to change the nose).
