I have one as well and in the original build manual it did suggest you build it with o-rings instead of springs and that has always been how I have run the car. It's always been at club level with low bite carpet. I've always found it worked really well, awesome car

I found my Kyosho SR-5 and the Kyosho Target Scotch Indy car. One has almost all of the hop-ups and other one is all stock except bearing set. Foam tires are all dried up. Are there any Kyosho F1 fans here that would like these two kits? If yes, please send me PM for detail information. Anyone know if I can get new foam donuts (rough cut or pre-trued) for Kyosho F1 cars? Tamiya foam donuts doesn't have same width. It's too bad Kyosho doesn't re-release old/vintage r/c cars as often as Tamiya.

Tamiya has about 15 different varieties. Type in ball connector in Tamiya usa's site and PROFIT

Also, Tamiya ball cups fit tamiya ball ends. I'd assume they are 4.8mm too.

BTW, I just went and looked, and all the Tamiya stuff says 5mm...but I have some 3Racing ball ends that say 4.8mm right on them, and they fit.

Either way, buy the tamiya stuff, it will fit. "Normal" ball ends will not fit.

and

These were around $80 back in mid 90s, which was about $40 - $50 cheaper than Tamiya F1 at the time. HPI's super f1 was most expensive, around $220 for the kit excluding the Corally F1 which was around $300.

Yup. Tamiya calls them 5mm. They measure 4.8mm.

@ superspeed, i have raced the sr-5 for many years and still havnt raced anyother chassis that handles as well as this car. I have always used tamiya donuts on the kyosho rims without any issues. Id be interested in your two cars for the right price.

I'm trying to get some interests for F1 / Indy class at local track here. Yeah, all my foam tires are shot/dried out. Tamiya ones are a bit narrower, a small portion of the rim is exposed. You are right about the handling. I started racing F1 class with Kyosho in 95. At that time, I was the only person with Kyosho SR-5 and I was competing with a field of F102s & F103s plus HPI F1 and Corally F1. Some drivers complained the last two cars used 1/10 pan tires. I finished 2 seasons of point series with TQ and 1st place for each race with an almost stock Kyosho F1 car. The 2nd car was used as a spare car since track didn't carry any Kyosho parts.

eff one: I will find some time to take pictures and notes, then send you a pm.

I seem to recall seeing pics of an IRS F1 car , at a hobby show , it looked a little larger than 1/10th scale , hard to tell from the pics.

Was it to be released last year ? this year? flopped?

You might be talking about this car...
http://os.3racing.hk/carkits_web.php?carkits_web_key=15

Came out a few months ago in the US... It's 10th scale, competitive with F104, very cool chassis... and with all the gears it sounds great

FGX. Quite popular. Some bugs, but a good car.
