I run a spool on black carpet, especially when traction is up. You can get the ball diff close by taking balls out of the gear and using cut to fit Traxxas slipper pegs.

I've run both ball and spool on my home track with FTII carpet. It's on the smaller side. Lap times are about even either way.

How long do the Exotech tires last? Rear tires wear out 1st?

We have run 17,5T zero boost with rubbers back then, it was perfectly driveable and fun. Trouble is the motors are faster and faster each year. My old LRP X12 is really not on par with Xerun V3 or even V4 both being 21,5T

Has anyone used the Klinik RC "Swoop" bodyshell? It looks very much like the shell that was popular in Europe for a bit (I think it was called Gizmo?)

Wing mounts trending back over to pod mounted vs chassis mounted. There seems to be a trend of people modifying their wing mounts to move them back to pod mounted for various reasons. This seems to have been a placebo effect that chassis mount is better. Does everyone really think the aero-loads are significant enough to create a negative moment about the axle? Our local fast guy has it this way and I'm converting my car over... was just wondering if this trend is happing at other tracks too and if the car manufacturers will go back?

I run on an indoor black carpet track and when I was running an evo 2 I started with the kit chassis wing mount and noticed the axle rubbing on it and causing some funky issues. I converted it to a pod wing mount and the issues went away. As far as generating enough downforce to make a difference, I don't think so. I hit a wall about mid way through a race and broke the wing off the pod and it didn't seem to affect the handling of the car at all. I'm back to running my Exotek car now, I like the wing mounting on that much better.

The biggest reason we switched the wing back to being mounted to the pod was to control the weight a little more. One of the issues with mounting the wing to the chassis was by the time you loop the mounts around or you path it over the top of the motor you have one of the heaviest pieces of your car as far away from the CG as possible. As others have mentioned, the axle can also hit the wing mount, on my Exotek under extreme shock compression the motor would hit the wing mount, my Roche would hit the wing mounts under the axle on extreme cornering. The wing does have enough aero to put a load on the center spring (chassis mount) when going down straights and some high speed corners but that's about it. When I switched to the pod mount design I didn't notice a change in the rear traction that much, if at all. What I did notice was the lateral movement of my chassis became a lot more stable. Without the wing throwing it's weight around on every corner the car felt more planted. The farther away from the CG the more of an impact an object has on weight transfer. I know some people will say, "but the wing is now an unsprung weight", while that is correct the car felt way more stable after this change.

A couple things to note: 1. I race only on black carpet. 2. This might not be the best change for outdoor racing as lower grip scenarios traditionally encourage more weight transfer and roll.
