1/10 R/C F1's...Pics, Discussions, Whatever...

We have Fun in our F1 class here in sunny hot Florida. As for the foams yes we started with foam but with the two sizes needed back then it was not fair to both the Tamiya versions and the HPI versions. It died and CRC with the Rubber tires brought it back to life. Sure there are ups and downs finding that combo for your car but that is in every class.

Had a chance to try the Team Powers tires, soft front and rear, good grip even on a cold track (winter), the soft fronts still understeered slightly but it was easy to drive, as many have already stated probably not as good as the Shimizu combo but they look better, more scale to current F1 wheels.

The only reason I suggested the foams is because they are readily available they come mounted on F1 wheels and they are trued and ready to mount on the car they're the same exact dimensions as the gravity front and rear wheel and tire set they don't wear out much at all ...if you rotate them between the runs they stay completely flat and will show very little wear after a full day and the car drives like a 12th scale... until you've tried them bullfrog(bill) please don't knock them they're not like the foams that you tried in the past your statement above tells me you were using foams 20 years ago... we all raced those...I was one of the largest champions of F1 switching from foam to rubber ..they are new and work well ... If you saw a car run with them I guarantee you would be on board.... just saying... And as far as growing the class yeah you run in the Florida state series with like six F1 racers that run the class consistently now...That to me is not a healthy class... State series started out with 23... Now we're down to five racers average depending on the race, the last state series had eight before that 4 before that 5 before that 8 again ...We had 15 running in Coral springs now we've got four left... Then you have people that are dropping out because of certain driver went and bought all of the best tire combinations from everywhere and is now hoarding them for himself so as long as we have open tire he'll have that advantage in f1 class... He's also the driver who was pushing the hardest for open tire rule everyone wants to feel like they have a chance that's why I feel we need to have a spec tire again... Or temporarily go to foams let everybody come back to the class and have fun cuz they won't have to deal with setup issues the car literally drives like a 12th scale all they have to do is wheel it they're cheaper they last a while and then when the rubber situation gets fixed we can all go back but forgive me for having an open mind.. and trying to grow the class back to what it should be.... Next time I'm at valkyria I'll let you try my foams... Or you can just scratch your head as I blow by you...lol

Here they are they're manufactured by contact

BUttttttt i will be testing the team powers Med Med combo per your recommendation , I agree with you and I think they will work better in the hot temperatures at cs this weekend. I will post the findings here.........I posted the last results in the f1 rc usa group on FB.....Izzys group.

you will be able to run you foam in practice all you want but not in the races-good luck. Just because you dont like the present tire combos for this class? We have been testing tires at Valkaria for some time and have published our results. As for the person that has the tires you cant get they are not what we run at VALKARIA.I know him personnel and have known about this tires stash- no big deal . We have a good turn out elsewhere in the state. You wont see me down there as I don't travel that far anymore. 2-3 1/2 hours one way is far enough for me nowadays- your 5+(10+ hours in one day is to much for me).

Bullfrog, where can I find your report?

Contemplating attending the ROAR nats, I bought some of the Powers tires. I have both the soft and medium compounds. Our track surface is very good but not perfect, there are a few cracks covered with tar. Most of the day I was using medium / medium with various traction additives. Across the board the biggest problem was that the rear tends to break away suddenly if the surface is not perfect. I was using Gravity tires or Pit shimizu previously, which have a much taller sidewall, and are more forgiving in terms of break away. It seems like de tuning the front end some to encourage it have less bite mid corner is the way to go. Also, the front and rear tires seem to be different in the rubber composition. Fronts feel like F104 kit tires, which are fairly heat sensitive (the tires tend to have pick up when it comes off the track, they get sticky). Rears feel more plastic-y, and do not pick up clag/junk. This results in the two types of tires heating up differently. The rears seem to take longer to come in.
Personally, it seems like running one step harder front is better, having tried that. I ran the same compound front and rear most of the day, since most of the posts I have seen indicate ROAR will be medium / medium.
Anyway, that's what I found on our track, perhaps a permanent track with different aggregate (it limestone up here) they work a little different. Also, it's not super hot in Chicago.

The med/ med is what I think they are going to use. But they have not said anything else. I have been using the med/med. Some have used the med/soft which I will try in two weeks at Valkaria.
Also any racing done at Valkaria is open for anyone to race. Even the September state race (starting our 43 year) is open for anyone to race.
Although this is not the thread to say this- If you want to race on foam- the GT12 class at the Nationals will be foam.

Worth a try

Look like 1/10 oval caps...

The more options we have the better I love the color of the wheel.
