Both said that they felt like it took a long time for their brushless motors, both 17.5 & 13.5, to get back up to speed after having to let off. Sean also mentioned that you almost needed to have your car set up to be able to get around the track without lifting at a big race, at least fully lifting, as you lose too much time. I ran a 5 year old brushed handout motor and was easily faster in the infeild, but yes, they were both faster on the straight. In all lap time were about the same. Jimmy was running 3.7v lipo/13.5 and Sean was running Nimh/17.5.

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing to come out with new technology, just that manufacturers should try to keep it affordable to keep racers around and to get new ones in. There will always be those that what to spend whatever it costs to have the latest and greatest and that needs to happen when new products are being deleveloped. Just don't change the class to where an average guy gets run out because he has older equipment. For someone like me that's been in the hobby for a very long time, the cost to switch over to lipo and brushless is huge and could run some racers off. Not everyone has an extra $500 laying around to buy a new esc/motor combo, lipo packs and the chargers/balancers, etc. that are needed.

I guess I did miss the purpose of this thread and apologize for steering it off track. I for one look forward to the day when we have solar powered hovering cars that you no longer have to true tires for. I hate trueing tires!

Now back to your previously scheduled program................
I totaly agree with you that costs should be held down, I stated in 1/12 back in the mid/late 80's; you know back in the days before electronic esc's. I've seen a lot of progression in the hobby and 1/12 in all that time and your correct that costs have been excellerating too fast in the last 3-4 yrs. And no your post was on topic and I found it to be informative and positive about the future of 1/12 racing. I'd just like everyone to take a breath and realise that this thread is about the sharing of ideas and information; no flaming needed

I have a bunch of cells and I bought mine at my local hardware store, home depot and wal-mart. This is what they look like and you could get them here, each pack has 2 cells so you would need 3. I posted a few pictures a ways back in the thread but I can post some new one's if you like.....BB

It's funny to see the difference between here and the states. 12th is a bit of a niche class here, and spec racing for it doesn't exist, so it's all mod and generally a class people get into once they've become good at other classes. With that in mind, there is a bit of support for 7.4 lipo because noone really wants to slow it down - we don't have much carpet either so maybe we arent going that fast to begin with. I just hope whichever way it goes over there will carry over here, because 4000mah 1 cell packs that wont go 8 mins in mod could hurt the class here rather than help it

Here's a little break from motor talk.

Let's see some real scale bodies make a comeback on the 1/12 scale.

If we go to racing real looking bodies I would consider getting into this class.

I found this gem rummaging through the old stuff at my local hobby store. I think its made by Andy's RC which I don't think is no longer in business. I did research what kind a car it is and found out it was a Sauber Mercedes. One of the greatest group c cars of its time.
