Default Integy Team Tools - Ti-Nitride or Spring Steel?

What's the difference between Integy's Ti-Nitride and Spring Steel hex wrenches? Are they made of the same steel but come coated (w/ Ti-Nitride) and uncoated?

I think they truely are Ti for they are pretty brittle and I broke a few of the 1/16 ones and finally just replaced them with steel ones. I just got the steel Racers Edge bits and stuck in my handles.

Really? I assumed they were coated because Ive got a couple with worn tips and the metal at the tip isnt the gold-ish colour. Never broken any of my tips.

Titanium Nitride is a coating commonly used on drill bits and other cutting tools as its hardness extends the life of their wear surfaces. It also improves corrosion resistance. On a tool such as a wrench its purpose would be largely cosmetic and so the marketing guys can exploit the cool-sounding name.

So are Integy's Ti-Nitride tools coated spring steel? Or just regular steel?

the spring steel has a thick coating on it, so you need to "wear" it off so you dont strip hex screws. The Ti ones are accurate though, but not as trick looking as the spring steel.

I'm pretty sure the Ti-Nitride tips are hardened steel with a Ti-Ni coating. The spring steel tips are made of medium carbon steel (not as hard) for flex and bending properties with a black coating. This explains why some people have experienced broken tips with the Ti-Ni tools.

Glad to find this thread....I was asking in off-road which to get.

We have a vote yet on which one to get? I'm between a 7 piece steel for 25$ shipped or a Ti for 32$ Both Integy products as well

I am interested in seeing the response also as I am looking for a set of tools for my TC. Whether it be the Integy or maybe some other brand that would be recommended. Links are helpful too

This is what I have been looking at so far...I guess I would get the 7 piece, but would want the better quality ones of course. The Spring steel is 8.66 cheaper than the Ti set....but is it better?
