What is says on the site is

'This is the new prototype HPI M chassis in plastic'

However its not 'plastic' as such. It's called Stereo Lithography. Its actually a resin model produced by a 3D printer straight off the cad data.
It's a cool process and produces these semi-transparent models which are really good for checking fit and finish etc.

From the other pics it looks to use a 12mm, but held on by a screw and washer instead of a nut.

Very kewl pics of the prototyping!

One of the guys has just posted on the Mini Cooper thread..

The car is called the 'Switch' and that weird translucent white colour is actual production (not proto) that's what they're going to look like.

I'd bet against that...those are stereo-lith rapid prototyping models and that's what they look like. I see black plastic in the future...

Launch bodies will be the Alfa MiTo, Fiat 500, and Toyota IQ. Most likely will be available in RTR form first, blah... I want a kit version!

Does anyone else see that enormus steering link being a weak "link" in this car? Guess they needed to leave at least one design flaw

I agree with the sterering design being one of the first red flags but hay I am not an engineer so who knows. Also whats the final gearation supposed to be? I like it and think it will be a huge success for HPI and again as soon as they are available and I know that 3 months later there not going to come out with an upgarded version with a ton of alloy then I am getting one. NOt that alloy is bad but I would rather wait if they come out with an R model or SS if you will.

its similar to the E10 one, and thats ok on the E10. Hey, the rest of the linkage is slack as hell.

you could always replace it with a turnbuckle.

That would be one long #^& turnbuckle, reminds me of the tamiya dark impact. Can't wait for this car to come out. Looks to be pretty simple to work on. Some new mini bodies that aren't 35 bucks and are available at almost every lhs would sure be nice.

well, i guess if someone had access to a lathe and a reverse thread tap it wouldn't be too hard to make their own, and the nsell them to other racers.
