You can definalty run a BL motor in a tb-02. The drive train is exactly the evo3's, and that car is specifically made for stock & 19t racing.

18.5, 13.5, 10.5 BL would all be just fine in a TB-02. Just make sure your diffs are in good shape and shimmed correctly in the gear box and you are good to go.

If you are having gear melt down with a 10.5 BL motor in your TB-02, then something is put together wrong.

True.. but the EVOIII doesn't have the massive chassis flex a TB-02 does. I've never melted any gears, but the front diff or one-way starts skipping after a few races. This is with upgraded diff gears as well (Evo IV). I'd hate to see what it would do with a spool!

Yes you can use the evo 3 graphite upper deck on the TB-02 tub chassis, I have seen it but never done it tho. I am using the front and rear carbon braces, they save weight more than anything, and make the chassis easier to work on. they do not add much stiffness over the stock plastic pieces. The best way to super stiffen that chassis is to use the stock plastic pieces instead of the graphite front and rear ..... and run a bead of CA all the way around where they meet the plastic chassis .... it makes it a little harder to work on (using sovent to remove the 2 plastic parts), but it makes for a stiff A$$ tb-02!!

Have you tried adjusting/adding shims on one side or the other of the diff cups, to tighten up your gear mesh inside the gear box?? as the gears wear you may have to swap shims from one side to the other to get good mesh and no skipping ..... I have had diff gear skipping ..... and it suks!!!

to save yourself some stripping one way gears in the front put in the aluminum EVO IV ring gear. the bevels will eventually wear out but not as fast as the plastic one way gear does.

I use to run the aluminum gear in my EVO III in 19T and Stock and had no issues. Just make sure it is shimed right.

welll....im running a BL Novak SS5800....its like the same as 7 turns i think....its runs great...but snaps the diff pretty easiily...but its just a simple change. and yes you can run a uper deck and it changes everything...it helps alott...makes the whole chassis Stiffer!

just take a look....this is my tb02....not an R....i just slowly modding it...still not done....i didnt want to change to evo3 cuz alot of stuff is going to go to waste....like the carbon braces on the front and rear...and the ssg on the bottom....soo i just kept it as it is...but wen that time comes to change to evo3, i just need "J" bag parts, motor mount, and chassis.

better to have a clean light evo 3 than a cluttered tb02 in my opinion.

Default tb02 bashing

hello all!

i'm just getting back into the RC hobby since my high school days (about 15 years ago?).

i bought myself a ta05 and i had thought i could use it for casual racing and bashing with friends in parking lots and parks (unprepped surfaces). unfortunately, debris keeps getting in between and eating my pinion and spur.

so, with that said, i have a ton of questions...

i was wondering if a tb02 is a viable bashing car?
will the tb02 be in danger of becoming obsolete in a year or two?
will the speed and handling be a lot different than my ta05?
will i be able to upgrade the motor to be competitive with my friend's 19t losi drift-r?

thank you all for your input.
