My motor was a little under geard for the straght.Esc was warm but not hot.Can undergearing cause this.

I've never heard of anyone burning up a motor from being undergeared.
What is your timing advance set to?
Anyway a motor can get very hot very fast if there is no load on the motor but to get zero load you'd have to remove the pinion or have really really low gearing...lol.
What battery setup are you running?

There is no way for the ESC to shut down the system due to motor overheating. If the motor overheats it will still operate until it eventually burns up and melts the plastic/rubber coating around the rotor.
There is definitely something wrong with your gearing if your motor overheats and melts.
Are you running a separate temp probe or did you use a temp gun to see how hot the motor got?

The reason why you get a reading of 55C is because the fan is still running after thermal? On my ESC I removed the fan so when it thermals the temp doesn't drop so my temp readings are more accurate than with a fan. I've measured the temp on my ESC right after thermal with no fan installed and it was 150F which is 65C.

Anyway whatever the temperature reading is, it's still reaching the temp limit of the esc which causes the overheating.

Im thinking about ordering a 5.5t rather than going with 3s lipos in my 9t for more speed. what do you guys think? it seems it will be a cheaper alternative.
#848
Personally I'd rather keep the current motor, get a 60A ESC and get a cheap LiPo from Hobbypartz.

thanks,,i will probly reconsider after hearing that, but after buying a lipo charger and 2 lipos, it wud come out cheaper.

Hi, maybe i've used wrong the search function, but here it goes.
What's the recommended battery discharge rate to use with a Ezrun 60A ESC and a 5.5T motor? I'm asking this because bigger discharge rate = expensive batteries.
What's the recommended FDR interval for the 5.5T motor?
Is the 8.5T/9T worth it? I'm going to use it for bashing and some race with friends at RC tracks.

Final question...i'm going to have problems using Tamiya plugs?
Thank you all

Well with a 60A ESC, id say u want to find someting close or a tad over 60amps. (mah rating)/1000 *C rating.
from the few post above, its said that the low turn un sensored motors have cogging at low speed. so 5.5t would be faster, but maybe more frustrating and laggy.
as far as 8.5t and 9t, someone mentioned that the 8.5 T didnt have much more torque than the 9t. I believe the smaller 380 motor in the 9t will help with efficiency, but I may be wrong.
Im not sure how hot the tamiya plugs would become since i changed mines at the same time i went brushless, nor can i vouch for the differnce in performance. but if u can get deans, get them.

I just bought a Turnigy 35A, either a copy or just rebranded EZRun....
$29, sooo cheap
Looks the same, i'll have to put em side by side & compare more closely.
Does smell different to my EZruns

Hi,
I recently had a problem were the car would suddenly stop as if a failsafe was kicking in, and then starting and running intermitently. I though the problem was my Spektrum receiver and sent it for repair. Iit was returned with a job sheet saying that there was nothing wrong with it and just needed cleaning.
Since then I've used a second receiver and the same has happened again so I've ruled the receivers out. Could this problem be caused by the Ezrun speed controller ? Has anyone heard of this before ?
Also, maybe a coincidence, but we've recently started running transponders, is this just a coincedence ? No-one else at the club has suffered this problem.
Any help is appreciated.

If you are limited by your wallet, like me (and many others) Just get whatever lipo you can afford. I have cheap Yeah Racing 3200 20c lipos. I have had them for about 18 months, never ballanced and I use them just for racing with an Assoc T4 with H/wing 60A and a novak 6.5. I get about 7-9 minutes run time and I won our clubs last open mod truck season with this set up. (mind you one of the batteries is getting a bit dull and will be replaced very soon)
