Or better yet, I'll fabricate a plastic case for it with bullet connectors. Then it will look neater, and obviously be shielded from physical damage. Plasti dip looks like a good idea too...

PlastiDip makes a pretty tough shell. Won't be as hard as a case but will still be tough. It will also be cheaper and totally water-tite

On my Reedy 5000 LiPO's I have applied black plasidip to the wire exit since I noticed dirt liked to get inside. I would hate for a pebble to work inside the case and poke into a battery after a few months.

I've also used the clear spay to mend cells that get the heatshrink damaged from use. When Sprayed on the bottom of NiMH packs, it keeps the cells from sliding in the slots as sometimes happens in Oval racing where the slot is extra long. When sprayed in a thincoat, fitment is a not issue.

A while back I almost talked someone into dipping their RX pack for a truggy since it rattled in the batt box and sometimes got wet.

Danny-

So is this pack a three cell of two cell lipo wired for single voltage. Also how or what chargers are capable to charge your new single cell voltage pack?

Thanks

This pack has 3 cells wired in parallel which triples the capacity but keeps the voltage the same at 3.7v.

I would think that most Lipo chargers can charge a single cell. I use a GFX and a Hyperion charger and they both charge single lipo cells.

Default 1/12 lipo

Danny when you run the exhibition race at Vegas with the new lipo packs can you please advise lap times and what motors were used. I am interested in what wind we will use in mod? Run 3.5, 3.0, 2.5 will it go 8 minutes, and how much slower is it? What wind is close to 17.5 with the new lipo's?

What weight are the cars going to be running? Any other set up changes to get the cars to work?

I know I am ready to use these if the cars are fast enough. We need to work on getting this done this year so we can get the rules in place for next year, as nobody will be matching cells anymore.

Seems as you can make both variations of packs for T bar and link cars so this is the way of the future for 1/12th scale.

Thanks Fred

Just wanted to bring this one back to the top so Danny can give us an update when he gets back from Vegas.

Hopefully, they tested with 13.5 motors, and can give us gearing and rollout info.

Danny is "computerless in Vegas" so he will report sometime tomorrow when he returns.
I can fill you in a little. Sean Cochran at Associated wanted to try one in his 1/12 mod car since "I won't make the main". Well....guess what? He did! Great job Sean. Since he was in contention all weekend, he didn't run the pack (otherwise he would have been DQ'd). However, we did get one in Mike McMahon's car for his B main run. They geared up his 4.5 and it was a missile at the end of the straight. Unfortunately, the gear was too much and the motor overheated so he had to pull it. Also, they felt the car was sluggish out of the turns because it was overgeared. After talking with some other people, though, it may have been due to a low voltage cutoff in the speed control that won't allow the voltage to drop below 3.2volts. When the car accelerates, the amp draw spikes and the voltage drops. This sluggish feel may have actually been the speed control stuttering under hard acceleration. Right now, we aren't sure. Bruce at Speedmerchant said he was going to do more extensive testing when he got home. Before he arrived he did do some testing at his track and he told me a 17.5 4-cell car was about the same speed as a hypothetical 14.5 with the single cell lipo (13.5 was faster so he estimated 14.5). We will keep everyone posted. It is very hard to test with only 4 practice rounds. No one wants to compromise a run to test new technology. I don't blame them.

That's awesome news! I can't wait to see what's reported in the next weeks. The biggest thing is going to be getting people over the fact that it's "a little different". Different can be a great thing.

About 4-5 of us that are going to run 1/12th this winter have pretty much already commited to running this battery. None of us want to spend the money or play the battery games with nimh anymore. We're going to be running 13.5 motors with this lipo, to run against 17.5 'stock' class cars. We just need to know general rollout to start with, what speedos work best on 1S, and if a receiver pack is really necessary or not.
