Default Danny at SMC please help

Danny I'm wanting to run 2 of the SMC 5000 packs in my electric 1/8 scale. I'm using the Novak Maxx system and needing to know how to run the two packs together. Please let me know as I would like to run this weekend.

Thanks

There's a good article in the September issue of RC Driver magazine on wiring batteries for your application

Hi Dustin,

The HV ESC comes with two battery connectors pre-installed from the factory... simply connect one battery to each connector and you should be good to go.

Steve, isn't there also some info in the instructions on how to rewire it so it looks at the batteries as a 4S as well, with jumping one of the Positive wires?

Or is the stock wiring already going to read the batteries as 4S?

As it stands it connects the two separate battery packs in series... so you get 4S voltage.... no special wiring needed for 2 2S packs

If you want to run a single 4S pack the ESC needs to be rewired...and the instructions reflect the modifications needed

Be warned, if you do this, that you need to use a 2S smart stop on the pack that powers the electronics and not the built-in 4S smart stop in the HV controller. One pack gets drained about 7% to 10% faster than the other. If you use the 4S smart stop the pack that is drained faster could be damaged before the 4S smart stop kicks in.

This has been discussed at length (mainly by me) in the off-road section in the thread on Novak 1/8th conversions.

I run two SMC 5000 packs in my Losi 8ight, but I am using a Mamba max and have them connected in series so they get drawn down at the same rate. I found out about the different drawdown with the Novak from my first conversion with a Novak HV 6.5.
