Stock Motor Thread

Wanted to start this thread because stock racing seems to be so competitive nowadays. I wanted to hear input from everbody with their tips and good ideas, and which motor is the best in their opinion.

What stock motor seems to be best for touring cars, like the Tc3, for an average size track?

paradigm

i love and hate stock motors, i love them cuz there cheap"er", and are sorta equal, they make driver race driver, more than car race car. I hate them cuz there slower, and get hot, cuz i gear them to get all out of em'. I run team paradigm stock motors, i love them, they tune the factory motors the best i think. I love them cuz they also don't have that weird reedy motor smell, hehe.

i use a tc3 and drive stock motors exclusively at the moment, i've tried both the p2k2 (not pro version) and the monster stock (pro version), and here are some inputs:

1) in small, tight, technical tracks, a properly geared p2k2 is at par with the monster stock pro.

2) in large tracks, the p2k2 will have a hard time catching up to the monster stock pro due to the higher rpm that the msp churns out.

just my two cents worth

Ive an old Trinity midnight 2 pro stock which is pretty fast and in my tc3 makes for some good racing.

i might get a team paradigm stock motor but i wasnt sure if its worth it

so far its axiom or team paradigm monster stock.

i dunno which one to get :(

any input on these motors?

I run a fantom Gm3 and that thing seems to have a lot of torque. I just dont have a speed advantage either which i thought id get with a high rpm motor. A lot of people at my track seem to like the monster horsepower. Have you guys tried this

23/27?

Seems not much ppl running 23T (the standard stock motors for the JMRCA) which 23T you like the most? I m not talking about the best, but the favourite....

imput

i raced a guy this summer with a regular monsters motor, and i ran a paradigm p2k2, and we were bout equal, so a paradigm monsters would be a deadly mesh, hehe, but u need imput from a axiom guy to make a desision

I run a Reedy MVP, great torque and top end equal to the MSP's, I can pull alot harder out of the corners in some parts of the track(mid sized technical) then the MSP's. Great motor even though it gets hot.

heat?

Have you guys check the temprature of the motor after run?
Stock motor can reach arround 74~76 degree celcius, but it is normal..
Yokomo guys said it is still ok until it reach 86 degree celcius, if over 86 degrees, it is overgearing...
I check the motor after each run with an infrared temp check, shaft drive car usually have a motor surface temp arround 74~76 degrees, and belt drive car usually 69~71 degrees.
Any input?? (23T stock... see if any different with the 27T)

fatdoggy 09-01-2003 08:07 PM

I'll see if I can check the temp next time I run but the MVP's always get hot. I'm running a 6.5 overall ratio which is fine for 27T stock.

I run a Team Paradigm GM3, iv got it geared at 6.8 in my TC3 and it seems to have great top end :) Im soon getting a fantom tuned Monster, are they any good?

evaa 09-02-2003 03:58 AM

when i ran my p2k2, my final gear ratio was 6.5, while my monster stock pro was geared at 7.0, both were ran at a large, wide open track.

am i gearing correctly? inputs please.

by the way, what final gear ratio do you guys use for the reedy mvp, i've had the motor for quite some time but havnt had the chance to experiment with it coz it gets really hot everytime i use it, the final ratio i use for my mvp is 7.0 or the same as my p2k2, is this the proper way to gear it?

tanx in advance.

Im planning to run the winter series on carpet here in the UK and im going to run stock as my cells arnt up for mod, im planning to get a revenge of the monster to replace my midnight 2 pro and run that, has anyone got any tips to help me out here?

racenut123 09-02-2003 07:43 AM

Start with a final drive of 7.5-8.0 if your running rubber tires.
