Default Laps Free lapcounter software won't work, any ideas?

Hi, a question for you guys running this software.
I've downloaded LapsFree since we have no transponders yet.. so we'll be punching the numbers
But.... I cannot get this software to start the race!... when I press the "start race" button I get a message box saying "There are no drivers in this race, select another race from the setup screen", and the countdown timer just pauses.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong? It's an odd message because when I press the "drivers" button, I do see the driver list that I imported from the database.
I however, have not managed to find out where is the "setup screen" that the error message is referring to.

I'm using windows XP, maybe its a compatibility issue?

Assuming you mean that you added racers to the database and did the 'transfer to event' to enter them into the current "race"...:

Did you then go to 'tables' and do the 'sort' process so it can put the drivers into heats...? If you did that, did you then do the 'check' process to ensure no errors exist?

If that was all OK, then you should be able to close the 'tables' window, and at the main screen, click on 'Race'... The race screen should appear and start a 5 minute countdown to the start of the race....

One thing to watch out for is that the 'race' process does not "load" the drivers onto the screen until the countdown gets down to the 'race setup time' (ours is set to 2 minutes if I remember right)... Once it gets down to that point in the countdown, the screen will be filled with the racers, and anytime after that, you can extend or stop the countdown and/or click on 'Start Race' to start that heat...

Does this sound familiar? (there are different versions of the software, but this is valid for where I race)...

Also -- I hate to sound mean, but have you read the manual? All of this is in there, although it isn't too easy to read for a new user, but still it can help a lot...

I'm attaching a "script" I wrote to help with running the local races -- maybe that will help you too... Hang in there -- the software works very well here...

Thanks for the tip!! it's working now

I had skipped the sort process in the tables screen that you mention. Truth is I never checked the manual since the software seemed pretty straightforward

Big big thanks

Glad I was able to help! We went through all the same sort of problems when we started... Live and learn!
