I actually re-cut the shapes onto colored avery vinyl...yes into separate microscopic pieces and I did use a hairdryer to get them to wrap better. I agree, helmets are a pain but the results are nice. And that's why I'm a bit disappointed with the D-Drive helmet stickers, they are printed so well but can't wrap around the curves of a helmet, even with a hairdryer. I'll post a picture of the helmet when I get home.

Okay, here's a close up of the helmet. In the background, you can see some of the manual pinstripping... kind of sloppy but oh well. Also, I took some pictures of how the D-Drive stickers didn't like compound curves. In this example, I used the pinstripping on a blank helmet. It's hard to tell from this angle (camera's macro isn't that good) but you can see some wrinkling, particularly the clear parts towards the back of the helmet. In the other picture, I used avery colored vinyl. The rectangular yellow chunk of vinyl wraps nicely with no wrinkling or bubbling and the blue strip lays down well following some odd contures.

hey guys, i'm looking for a starting point on my 1f103r car with the tock tamiya motor. i have a 78 toth spur. the track straight away is 120 ft. the rest is short 10-30 ft runs.

Has anyone found an adapter that allows the use of traditional pan car tires for an F103 ? In my search, I did see one made by someone in Germany (I believe) but it seems he sold his original batch and never retooled these adapters. I've begun using my F103 more and more in a LeMans format and would love the versatility of pan car tires. The ease of finding pan car tires would be nice in F1 format as well. Just curious .....

I ran my F103r two weeks ago at the Tamiya USA track with a 17.5 Novak and a 5400 checkpoint lipo on TRG Superion rubber tires. It was awesome! It took a while to get the diff set properly, but when I did the car was great. I was geared 93/25 (stock) and the car was just a tick slower than the silver can guys down the straight, but my car was much faster through the turns. With the 5400 lipo I ran off and on (while making adjustments to the car) for over 45 min. 3 other drivers drove the car and were impressed with the rubber tires.

The TRG tires come on very brittle wheels. Fred at Tamiya suggested the Tamiya rubber tire wheels for the F103 part #s 0445727 and 9335297.

just bought my first F103 (and after driving some first test-laps, I know it wn't be my last!)

But I know nothing about pan-cars and setting these up.
I noticed there are different springs for the front suspension, the is the one shock that only dampens the bending of the chassis, if I understand it correctly, there are the friction plates that will dampen the movement of the motor-pod, ... and offcourse the diff.

Could someone learn me or point me out to some setup-tips for the F103?

In our local Tamiya-competition the F103-class is given a new chance, I would really like to try this type of competition

I too would welcom setup help.

What tires are best for the F103L outdoors on asphalt and on a indoor carpet track. I just snagged mine for $60 with a few hopups.

Good tyres i found for out door asphalt are Blade racing Hard front med rear and Zen with 35 on the front and 25 shore on the rear.

I use 60wt oil with a 17lbs spring.
I also use the oring battery mounts instead of the ball type. this makes the car a lot more consistent and easier to drive.

i also got rid of the friction plates and mounted the shock straight to the rear pod.

The F103L uses larger size wheels than the F103. You Tamiya,Cross and Kawada make tires to fit the F103L wheels. None of the Tamiya F103 tires will fit without changing the wheels. These look very small on the F103L.
Finding the tiresis the other hard part. You can use Pro 10 tires for the rear but i forget what tires other than the ones above fit the Fronts.
Your best bet is to order some of the C11 tires when it get re release for the second time. As teh "C" car uses the same size tires and wheels.

Hi guys, just got myself a F103RM and from most of the responses it seems that having an o-ring battery mount suspension is the way to go.

Anybody know the "correct" part numbers to convert the tray type battery holder to the o-ring type (same as what's on the 15th anniversary edition)? Don't care if it's plastic or the blue alum parts.

If it's a new kit, it already has the parts, it's mainly the "B" parts, with a black rubber o-ring and 2 washers.
