Default HPI Sprint 2 and battery questions

Hi! I just got my first car in about 12 years, a used HPI Sprint 2 with an Airtronics MX-A and I have many questions. First, it appears to have been replaced with the Sprint 2 Sport and Drift models. Are the parts compatible between all three? Now, on to batteries. Last time I was into cars the only batteries around were Nicd but now I see there are NiMh? What is the difference? How do I know what I have? It came with a 6 cell that says 3300 on the cells and a 4 cell that doesn't have any identifying marks.
