I ran the Mongoose with the 17.5 geared like I race it today. I started with a fully charged ener-g 4600 and dumped it just to see what would happen. Ambient temperature was 80* and VERY humid indoors on carpet. The motor came off about 140, and th esc was 98* at its hottest point (the heatsink)

I am very close to selling my 4 cell GTB, returning the mongoose I am borrowing, and buying one for myself to run in 12th scale. I wouldn't be surprised to find that it runs a 13.5 too, but Ill push the envelope with my own at a later date. I will continue to test the 17.5/Mongoose combo, but rather than posting anything, I will jsut post if I come across any problems. If you don't hear anything assume I am running weekly and having a great time with a cheaper, smaller, lighter ESC.

Im alsomst tempted to run this in a sedan or 2wd buggy . . .

Hey Andrew
We been testing the Mongoose here and its works fine but if you do get hung up in a board and hit the gas it will pop the Mongoose. let me know how the 13.5 works. I thinking of running the mongoose at the IIc but snice Scotty up the weight to 865 I leaving the gtb in for now. Sorry you can't make IIc I know you should be starting back to work right now.

I was told that the mongoose does'nt have any breaking fets, can anyone at Novak confirm this? I realize that breaking in 1/12 is rare but just wondering. We had one local driver using the mongoose this week also with a 17.5, no problems on the intial trial.

I did notice that the brakes were almost non existant, but my 4 cell GTB didn't have much if any braking either. I didn't try messing with any of the settings, Ill see if I can try and dial in more brakes with the Mongoose.

TIM-

Good luck at the IIC. Wish I could be there, but its pretty tough to get out of the first week of school!If/when I do run the 13.5 Ill let you know
And I'll be sure to stay out of the boards and off the throttle: Im glad you mentioned that!

Mahalo's for posting your findings on this setup.

Do you think running a slightly larger cap would help in this situation?

Man this is making me hold off on getting a new esc now!hehe

Since the last time I posted I have been running the car two days a week with the mongoose. When I first started running traction was low at our track. Before I ran the mongoose I had been running the 4 cell GTB and we had more traction. For comparisons sake, I was able to consistently run 38 laps on race day and was even able to turn some 11.9 second laps during practice (an average of 12.6 gives a 39 lap race, and a 12.3 average gives a 40 lap race)

With the lower traction I was down to a 36 lap race, not because of wrecks, but just slower laps all around. I attributed the slower times to the traction. Recently our traction has been coming up and a couple guys were back up to the 38 and 39 lap races and I was still stuck at 37, even with only a .3 difference from fast lap to average. I had a couple problems with the mongoose such as it shutting down during practice and a race when the cap came unsoldered, and the bullet connectors I was using coming unsoldered and causing stuttering (this is a borrowed esc, so I did not want to change anything about the original connectors). So after all the problems I decided to try an LRP sphere I had around. One night after racing where my best run of the day netted a 12.3 fast lap and a 37 lap race I removed the mongoose, installed the sphere, recharged the pack I had run in the main 5 hours earlier, and resauced the tires without checking any set up and ran in practice. I was immediately back to 11.9's back to back to back. So after a couple months of testing, in my experience, while the esc is 20 grams lighter, and cheaper, it is not worth the loss of performance I experienced after a few months of hard racing.
