I make Dealer orders through Great Planes and right now they are showing the WGT kit as Discontinued by manufacture. They've listed things like this improperly before so I'm hoping its just an error as I'd really like for the class to pick up.

Default Need gearing suggestions for 17.5 on 1S

I used the search feature in this thread but I found only one refernce that is close to my set-up, so I wanted to bounce this off of the collective wisdom. I've been running off-road for years, but this is my first on-road car and my first experience with 1S lipos.

I'm planning on running the 17.5 Sportsman NasTruck to start. I have a Tekin RS, Tekin Redline 17.5 motor, 4600mAh Reedy 1s Lipo, LiFe 220 mAh receiver pack and 96t stock spur. I'll be running a track with a 160' run line 60' x 40' flat track oval.

What kind of rollout should I be shooting for to start? If I'm reading this thread correctly, I should be within a 2.95" (75mm) to 3.23" (82mm) rollout. Does this sound correct? If so, I believe I'd be using between a 43-47 range of pinions.

Am I in the ball-park, or should I be looking at a different rollout figure?

Thanks . . . Matt

Default oval gearing

for 1S 17.5 oval try the following:

Tekin RS: boost 50, turbo 0, end rpm 6500, start rpm as low as possible.

17.5 motor: full timing

roll out: 100 mmpr to 110 mmpr. (rollout = tire diameter x 3.14 x pinion/ spur tooth)

Try that for a few laps then check the temperature.

This is very different than onroad ESC set-ups. turbo doesn't work on ovals. (or it works for a few laps then it falls flat)

I have a brand new set of John's BSR WGT Spec (Lilac) rear wheels which are 2.5mm in diameter. I'm going to stick with the 96t spur gear that comes stock with the 10R5. So (2.5 x 3.14 x 50)/96 = 4.09 which is 103mm. So that means I need to get a 50, 51, 52 or 53 tooth pinions? Wow, coming from the off-road world and 48 pitch pinions, those are huge azz pinions!

Am I doing the math correctly here?

Thanks . . . Matt

Sounds about right, but that won't fit on the car. You're going to have to swap spurs to get into the correct range and still fit everything in the 10R5 pod. The largest pinion I could fit without cutting anything using the 96t spur was a 41t

Default Team Associated RC10R5

In the manual there are pictures with NiMh batteries.
All the pictures I see on the AE website of this car are also with these batteries.
All old?

How can I fit this car with 2S LiPo battery?
That is 2S stickpack or 2 x 1S LiPo?

1/10th Pancars nowadays can fit a 2S 7.4V Lipo in the middle of the car, lengthwise.

How about the RC10R5?

Or must I really buy the XRay X10 Link?

You could try the new RevTech shorty 2S, it is 2mm longer but 7mm taller than the 1S. The rear shock may need to be elevated for the battery to fit.

Capacity is less at 4000 but that should be good for most races.

So y can convert car for 2S stick pack or use saddle pack, I prefer saddle pack.

Regards!

When fitting the Sophia body to this car, is the bumper meant to extend past the grill and into the front splitter or have I got the body mounted too far back?

Yes, you have it too far back.

ah ok. How much of a gap should there be from the body to the bumper? Enough to fit the foam bumper?

I mounted mine too far back on the first try too, had to trim the foam a bit, but the carbon bumper fits inside the body, just.

Ideally you shouldn't have to trim the foam bumper to have it right.

Still waiting for this body to wear out, and have another go to get it right.

I'm using the Parma DB9 body and I place it so the bumper is against the body disregarding the wheel well mouldings and cutting the wheel wells where the tires line up.

I believe that those using the Sofia are doing the same.
