Yeah, seems like a cool piece. My question in all this is the software. The way I see it, you can OEM these with the default software from the manufacturer, or you can write you own to improve upon the features. So a lot of companies are selling them, but the only one I see that seems to be actively developing and improving is Hyperion. They also only seem to be the only ones that have PC software that works with the USB interface.

Anyway, not to say one is better than the other, I'm just trying to get my head around how the pieces fit together.

This is a cool thread, it's really brought some neat hardware out into the open. There's certainly no lack of quality choices these days.

Few things about the ice.

First, you can set it up to match your battery capacity, discharge rate, top-off amount and capacity percentage. so if you want it to charge at 2C (just don't be around me when you do it), you have to set it up to charge your 3400mah lipo at 6800mah. So if you hear someone ruining their lipo and they used an ICE to charge it.. you'll know it was intentional.

second, it's DC only, meaning you need a power supply for it. this can be either a pain or a bonus depending on your perspective.

Third, the buttons and the dial are the weak link on it. I've had my ICE for almost two years and it's already going skitzo on me.

yes, it's cheap. but I wouldn't buy another one. I'd rather go with the hyperion.

What about charge quality? Anyone noticed any difference on different chargers?

I just bought the Losi charger. When I get it and get some charges I'll post on it.

the losi charger is the core...

I like the core and thunderpower as they can charge lead acid as well as everything else, and the core comes with lots of plugs.

+1 for the Hyperion EOS606i / Mega Power Poseidon-860DS

When I get back into Sedan racing this winter, Ill be getting one of them 2 chargers!! Screw the big power supply! I would like to see more feedback on the Mega Power one because that one looks cooler! But of the Hyperion has the update functionality. Then Ill go with that one!

When I switched to lipo I started out with the simple 1-button, 1-light ProPeak Quattro Plus:

I also started with Orion 3200s. It's a fine combo for club racing and did everything I needed. Plug it in, plug in your battery, and press the button.

Now I also have the Muchmore AC/DC Silent Charger Platinum and love it! I still use the ProPeak as well though. Good lipos very seldom need balancing so don't worry about it that much if you're just a casual racer. You can always borrow a balancer at the track once in a while.
