How to stop auto payment on paypal for this site

Hey just wandering how to stop auto payment on the tech elite status thru paypal. I didnt authorize renewal and they removed money from my account. Or how can i cancel it. Thanks guys.

Nova F1 Racer 06-12-2008 05:32 PM

Log on to paypal and cancel it. But you have to do it before it renews itself...

skypilot 06-12-2008 05:38 PM

hey, lookie there, i wasn't the only one that woke up to a WTF email.:D

smoke81 06-12-2008 05:40 PM

Yeah same thing happened to me :-/

Jeff Cuffs 06-12-2008 05:48 PM

So since they took it out allready that means its too late. I think its kinda messed up that i gave no authoriation the remove that money and they did...

HarshGuy 06-12-2008 05:50 PM

Paypal can be set-up like an automatic checking account...

I've got it set up so it takes 5 days for any payment to go through. I get an email saying a payment is pending and if I don't cancel it it goes through...

Saved me some $$$ in the past 2 years.....:nod::nod:

It gets worse. Many people were charged the money and don't even have the services! lol

Theres a thread in the site discussion section about this . . .

John Tag 06-12-2008 06:21 PM

Better yet.. It took my money also with out confirmation. Then today I notice my sig was gone.. I loged into my profile it stated I needed to become a Elite member...I just paid the 16.99 2 weeks ago..I paid the min 2.99 just to see what happens and it put my sig. back up. I have sent a e ail to RC Tech staff..Still waiting on reply....:tire:

Payment To RCTech Jun. 12, 2008 Completed Details -$2.99 USD

Jun. 2, 2008 Payment To Ampdraw Completed Details -$16.99 USD

A. Rhodes 06-12-2008 06:47 PM

I got hit wth auto renewal for RCTECH and RCCARS.com on the same day :flaming: The automatic withdraw w/o notification is BS, at least a reminder email a few weeks prior would have been nice....

Jeff Cuffs 06-12-2008 06:55 PM

:nod::nod::nod::nod::nod:

wyd 06-12-2008 08:01 PM

I'm with the rest of you. I was hit as well. As long as I know about it that would be cool.

JayBee 06-12-2008 08:31 PM

Any particular group of us that are getting hit? I just checked my Paypal account and I didn't get double-dipped yet.....I'm not holdin' my breath though.

Jeff Cuffs 06-12-2008 09:08 PM

I didnt get double dipped but i got money taken out of my account with out permission for renewal. It went to ampdraw but i thought he didnt have anything to do with the site any more.

HarshGuy 06-13-2008 01:02 AM

I would do one of these on paypal:

Unauthorized transaction: I did not authorize a recent transaction.
Learn more about filing an unauthorized claim

...got to My Account --> Resoltion Center --> Report a Problem

in the email notification there was a contact email address, i email them and asked whats up, ampdraw emailed me back and said it was a auto renewal and they didn't have anything to do with.

skypilot 06-13-2008 05:17 AM

body of email i recieved.

"This is the subscription to RCTECH.NET's premium membership that you
subscribed to; it's an auto-renewing subscription via your PayPal account.

Ampdraw no longer handles the processing for this feature of the site
though, and your account should be moved over to the new system - you
can see more information in this thread:

http://www.rctech.net/forum/showthread.php?t=208595

If you have any issues with the subscription, [email protected] would
be the address to contact. Alternatively, if you no longer want to be a
subscriber you can cancel with PayPal.

Hope that answers your question.

Thanks,

Jason"

Yeti35 06-13-2008 06:18 AM

You would have to cancel the subscription to the site through Paypal. I had the same issue with LiveRc. I wanted to renew that account, but not when they wanted to take the money. You just have to watch when you sign up for stuff like this to not set it up as a subscription.

tc3team 06-13-2008 06:25 AM

Its not a good/healthy way of doing business if you're not notified this will happen imho.

Again, purely *IMHO* If the new owners chose a different way of dealing with subscriptions over ampdraw then they should have pm'd or emailled every current member. It's only polite.

Not looked into it that far but, yes- you are a member , but it may also be similar to a direct debit scheme I am guessing?

If one of the terms of the membership is to provide paypal details and allow auto renewal (and existing members have been told of this) then that is all fair.

Not a member myself though so like I say.... just gathering my thoughts so prove me different if that is the case :)

andrewdoherty 06-13-2008 08:21 AM

I don't remember signing up or being notified taht it was a subscription. It was probably in the fineprint somehwere. I'd go and check, but I don't know where to go to check. I can't even find where the thread was that originally hyped the membership. I thought I remembered there was going to be something special like t shirts or something for members.

Honestly, besides saying tech elite next to my name I don't know of anything I got out of that subscription!

Dawn Sanchez 06-13-2008 08:26 AM

A couple of months ago, I noticed a renewal for this site and the Tech Elite status and wondered how they did that but didn't say anything. I did complain a bit about the several days it was taking to load a page but they fixed that and all was good....

now, I see my renewal fee was only good for a few months as I don't have Elite status any longer....

bummer......

DavidAlford 06-13-2008 09:00 AM

So rctech hates Roar? :D

Wes Briscoe 06-13-2008 09:29 AM

Heh...I'm paying for a RC TECH account I can no longer use (Desolas) since someone out there didn't like my comments about ROAR and had a moderator ban me...after a month I gave up and created a new account. I'm paying for the Tech Elite on that account still.

Good times...

But that reminds me to go cancel it before it renews again in 6 months..

It's also interesting that it's a charge from Ampdraw.com .... do they still own RC TECH, shouldn't the parent company be dealing with this?

I want a refund...

To their credit though, it does say this:

The 6 month and 1 year are marked with a "*" indicating they will renew. However it is pretty standard to make it easy for someone to cancel a subscription and I see nowhere to do that. Even porn sites allow you to quit.

Think they own U a credit and a apology , just hope they don`t get even more political with the Moderating .

That is one reason why "Tech Talk" is no longer popular.....

Check again...it's there now. ;)

I haven't seen a charge against mine yet....knock on wood.

skypilot 06-13-2008 12:11 PM

wow, this is screwy, i'm looking at where it says skypilot and it says tech master,

dawn said she didn't have it, but i'm reading it.

maybe i need to clear my cookies and reload..

oh well, i still gotta figure out if i'm mad or not, i use the crap outta this site so i shouldn't mind, but i never was a elite member before and didn't pay in the first place (at least i don't remember paying) so i should feel ripped off. oh what to do, oh what to do.:tire:

Dawn Sanchez 06-14-2008 09:49 PM

so... the subscription I paid for was only good for a few months? Is that true?

tfrahm 06-14-2008 11:03 PM

Hmmm... I got the auto renewal thing too, but since I use the site alot, I didn't really mind... I also checked and the amount was the same as I paid last year, which covered a full year... I better check to make sure I got a full year for my money...?????

NOTE -- I also no longer have the 'tech' symbol under my name... That bites...

NOTE#2 -- I have cancelled this subscription, so it won't happen again, but I still have paid for rights/services, etc. that I don't have...

Bob Barry 06-14-2008 11:42 PM

Subscriptions are automatic with Paypal. No notification. RC Tech can't cancel them either. you have to. This happened to me with one of my servers for my gaming team.

Wes Briscoe 06-15-2008 09:21 AM

Same here...the account I am paying for in protest has no status now, it was actually removed.

Ah well...eventually it will become less habit to come here and I'll forget about it after a few months of not using the forum..

Elite Icon & Sig

Well I have been hit for the autorenewal for this site, and paid it almost two weeks ago. This past Saturday I went in to update my sig, and I lost the eleite icon & no longer have access to the elite sig features.

Mods / newowners - can you please look into this and update my account to reflect the Elite that I have paid for, or refund my money :flaming:

DavidAlford 06-18-2008 08:37 AM

Didn't somebody say we'd never notice that the site changed owners? :)

touringdriver 06-20-2008 07:53 PM

i subscribed to get tech-elite logo, well that was oct. of 07 i got it for 2 months. they removed the service around the 1st of jan. 08 but have still been charging my paypal account a 2.99 monthly fee. ampdraw has been the payee on the paypal payment. i have sent dozens of emails asking for an explanation on why the charges but no services. i recieved a 1 email total from a lady named sarah on 3/26/08 asking for the payment reciepts saying i'm not shown as tech elite. i sent all 8 reciepts. i have sent 10-15 emails since then with no reply. but i just got 2.99 deducted from my paypal again about 2 weeks ago, it's like a 2.99 virus i want the tech elite but i think i'm emailing a wall. the new owners don't seem to give a crap about their customers at all.

futureal 06-21-2008 08:27 PM

On our (Ampdraw's) side, we went through last weekend and manually canceled every subscription we could find that was still active with us. Paypal provides NO way to determine who all is currently subscribed so this was a time consuming and generally annoying process.

As part of it, we also refunded EVERY payment that had been made to us in the past two months.

It's unfortunate that there was not a better way to resolve this, but when we sold the site we did not envision Paypal offering absolutely no customer service to us as far as a mass subscription cancellation.

To those complaining about the automatic billing/renewal: this was clearly stated when you signed up on Paypal's side. Unfortunately very few people (myself included usually) take the time to read the stuff and it comes as a surprise. In hindsight we obviously were not very happy with Paypal's service on this and it turned out to be a poor choice, however at the time we started the program we did not plan on selling the site and were much more hands on with support issues (since we were directly tied to the health of the site).

One other thing to add: we have answered EVERY email that has been sent to one of the support addresses we can check (i.e. anything @ampdraw.com) and have provided every requested refund that we are able to do. If anybody thinks this isn't the case please let us know so we can track it down and take care of it. We stopped having anything to do with the business end of this site at the beginning of the year, so all we are able to do is help you with canceling existing subs to our old address and refunding those.

Hope that clears some stuff up, obviously this is not an ideal situation for everybody, the lesson I've learned is basically, Paypal sucks.

what the hell here we go again
