Question on the "custom" transponders (i.e. not the cloned ones). Am I understanding right that I can set the 21st number myself to whatever I want? What I want to do is buy 3 of these transponders and have them all set to the same number without having to worry about someone else at the track using the same number.

in the MRT-transponder, you get 20 pre-programmed numbers. These are AMB-codes which MRT owns (MRT has bought these transponders)
You can have a 21'th code but only if it is your own cloned pt-numbercode.

You can not choose another 21th code then the cloned AMB-code that's yours.
(!! this was prooved to be incorrect!)
And in order to have that AMB-pt cloned, you have to send it in once. MRT scans the code, stores it in their computer and copies it into your MRT-transponder.
For any next orders for a clone-pt, you just send in a form. As MRT keeps the code stored, they can then easely copy it again in a new MRT-transponder.

As for the 20 codes in an MRT-transponder, maybe you could ask mr. Terry from MRT that he provides you with three MRT-transponders who have the same 20 codes.

No you can't set the 21st number to any number you want... Its a fixed number.

Here are the 20 numbers that "ALL" PTX's come with.

4961721 -- 9887001
3519622 -- 7621202
6091953 -- 6000513
5640314 -- 8110984
4572215 -- 5843805
7531106 -- 8087916
2351957 -- 4748687
2688158 -- 6099608
3073479 -- 5781589
5564690 -- 9577130
#21 ???????

If you buy 3 custom PTX's the 21st number will be different in all of them. You can set them all to any of the numbers above.... but anyone that has a PTX has those numbers too... (still a lot to chose from). Only way to do what you want is to send in a PT and have it cloned.

From the FAQ at MRT

PTX ID Numbers

Each individually numbered transponder has its 'custom' ID number written on the supplied instruction sheet with the 20 alternative numbers also listed as two sets of 10 ID's. Repeated numbers are not available for custom ID non-clone transponders. Only cloned transponders can have identical ID numbers supplied, following an original AMB transponder having been sent to us to have the ID number clone copied.

Cloned PTX transponders can have copied numbers from either personal transponder (PT) or rechargeable battery type (RT)'hand out' transponders used at clubs. The transponder mustbe sent to MRT in the UK together with a 'clone order form.

Thanks for the clarification and info. How big is the pool of numbers that the 21st custom ID comes from? What is the likelihood of someone else having the same number?

Don't know.... and I've never asked Terry. But its getting bigger all the time as he keeps buying up transponders. Also not sure what the ratio is clones to customs... not sure how many are out there... haven't heard any issues yet.

mmm, guys, pls READ the above!!!
It has be told over and over.

The chances for someone having the same 21th number is NONE!!!!
The 21th code is the one that will be cloned from your own AMB-transponder, so it is YOUR code and no-one else in the world can have the same
... if you do thing right and the cloned number is indeed from your AMB-transponder, a transponder that you bought from AMB and since AMB only sells unique transponders (every AMB-transponder has a unique code) ...

(!! this was prooved to be incorrect!)

I was not asking about the cloned option. I was talking about the non-cloned ones.

a non-cloned MRT DOES NOT have an 21th code-number, but 20 ... as you can read in the manuals and online
(!! this was proved to be incorrect!)

Ok, thank you for the clarification.

I will say that the documentation is less than stellar. When the FAQ specifically has a section for "PTX ID Numbers" and separate section for "PTX Cloned ID Numbers" and the "PTX ID Numbers" section says the following then it makes it seem like the non-cloned transponders have the 21th number:

Quote:
Each individually numbered transponder has its 'custom' ID
number written on the supplied instruction sheet with the
20 alternative numbers also listed as two sets of 10 ID's.
Also, what does the below "custom ID" reference mean from the FAQ?

Quote:
PTX transponders (cloned and non-cloned) are supplied with
20 stored ID numbers and come factory set on to either the
clone ID, or to the custom ID for non-clone transponders.

Terry,

I needed a new cloned one for myself and thought it might be a good idea to hear around ...
Well, i'm gonna go to the post-office tomorrow & gonna send you an order of about 30+ transponders
It will be mostly normal MRT-pt's but also some to clone ones (AMB's will be included), and custom ones (with shorter leads, or with tabs).
Hope you have enough in stock

Indeed, that is rather confusing.
I always understood that there are only 20 codes in a normal MRT.
Mr Terry will certainly shine some light on the matter on a next occasion that he pops in.

All PTX's come with 21 numbers Both my non-cloned ones came with the standard 20 and each instruction sheet had a hand written random number, which if I recall right the instructions said may or may not work.

I think the main point is there are 20 numbers and no chance of every person in your heat being on the same number.

WOW... Low_E, thats wrong!! They all have 21 numbers in them. The 21st number is either a clone of your PT/handout, or one from the large (and growing) pool that MRT has.

You are correct about the 21 number..... but I never saw that last part in the instuctions. Every PTX I got (clone and custom) came preset on the 21st number... and every one works flawlessly!

...
indeed, kcobra allready pointed this out to me.
Thx for confirming.

In the manual there is also something mentioned about losing this 21th number when resetting the pt? Or am I wrong?
