Gearing Question
Hello everyone, got a quick question about gearing... I am using an Epic Stock 27t motor and I was wondering abiout something...If I increase RPM how should I adjust my gearing. Should I go with a larger or smaller pinion. I am running a TC4 on oval. Thanks in advance Jeff

what i have been told is to get more speed go with a higher teeth count but going higer will increase motor temp.

No-not really-well it isn't that simple, increasing the rpm at the motor (increasing rpm is usually done by different brushes, the way they are cut or springs) means you compromised by losing torque (there is always a tradeoff), so it will not be able to pull out of the corners the same, but with the same gearing you will be at a higher rpm and faster on the top end. So you can drop a tooth and regain out of corner speed and still end up near the same top speed since the motor will generate more rpm to compensate. Or leave the same gearing, lose the out of corner aceleration and gain top speed. This works to a point- you still have to worry about load and how hot and inefficient the motor is getting, but in general you will have a starting point.
