Default RC advertising

Whens the last time a big name RC manufacturer ran a national TV add about their products? Tamiya used to to TV spots, is it not lucrative enough for them to do it anymore?

I stumbled on this Monday morning...

Does it sell more Kyoshos? Eh, doubt it but it looks so cool!

I was watching a CORR (Championship Off Road Racing) race a week or 2 ago and Traxxas was a major sponsor of a couple of trucks and had various advertisements throughout the broadcast. Not to mention they had a half decent commercial too...And this was on CBS!

Thumbs up

Traxxas advertises during the CORR racing. They run a advert for the Slash, support a couple of trucks, and have dash camera adverts as well as on the leaderboard that's above the screen while watching the race.

So to answer your question...yesterday was the last time there was a national advert for a R/C product.

Hobby Shack/People are the only ones I've ever seen on over the air TV.

The primary problem with mounting any sort of national advertising campaign is twof-old: first off it's very pricey to place commercials during primetime or optimum hours viewing (weekend sports coverage), and second Rcs are only sold to a relatively small nitch market.
So no more would it make sense for car companies like Ford to do advertising during Saturday morning cartoon time, they'd be wasting their money doing it because kiddies aren't buying Mustangs - than it would be for Associated or Losi or whoever to place commercial in which their potential buying public is around 0.5 percent of viewers, which would be kinda like placing a Miss Clairol haircolor ad on BET.

Obviously RC companies are trying - whether it be the sponsorship of a truck on Monster Jam, or others' attachment onto the CORR racing. But it's still a niche market, so don't look for any explosion now or in the future. Though I've often wondered, considering the uselessness of many products sold on latenight TV, why someone hasn't gone the infomercial route...

Traxxas not only does the CORR Series (Sponsor on Trucks, event sponsor, in car camera sponsor) but they've also been seen sponsoring the big Arena MONSTER TRUCK events and trucks.

What will happen with R/C companies getting involved in these markets?

MORE R/C Vehicles will be sold (Their Objective), but r/c race events will probably get LESS Sponsorship $$$, cause their focus is going to be on SELLING to a NEW market.

I totally forgot about the Monster Truck ads. Traxxas not only sponsors the events, but they even have a truck competing in them:

1:1 TMaxx anyone?
