XRAY T2 '008 Shock Assembly Question

When assembling the shocks, there are two small o rings, one thinner one that goes around the base of the shock body and the thicker one on the piston shaft.

Do most of you build your shocks without the o ring that goes on the piston shaft? What difference does this make?

Also are there any advantages to the aluminum shocks?

Thanks,
Phillip

If you left it off your shocks would leak very badly and you would quickly lose all your oil. You need both o-rings.

Alloy shocks would be smoother overall, but I still run the original plastic shocks on my T2. At least in a big crash the plastic shocks just break and are cheap to fix. If I had alloy shocks on my car with the big crash I had earlier this year, I would have completely written off one shock as I ripped one of the plastic shocks on two. Then I would have to buy a replacement pair. Instead I just replaced one plastic shock body and I was going again.
