Angry Defective Unit - Will return to Losi

Like some other folks, I'm having issues with my Xcelorin speed control.
(we need to change the spelling on this thread to help those searching).

It keeps losing it's end point settings and it shut down twice on the track this week. Motor temp was < 120, speed control was not at all hot, and plenty of battery left. We've had at least one other racer at our track have the same issue with his, so mine is going back to Horizon/Losi. Can anybody give me an idea what their turn-around time will be on something like this? (Not that this one is going back in my car, already purchased another brand).

Thanks!

hopefully helpful things

On losing endpoints - remember IMMEDIATELY after calibration when the blue led comes on solid to TURN THE POWER OFF this writes the settings back to the ESC.

Cutting out on the track - does the car just stop running? does it not start again? what do you need to do to make it function again.

Depending on your reply it maybe simple and connected to the first issue.

My Losi speedo and Motors performed awesome at the reedy race. I had tons of horsepower and the motors weren't overheating, I was finishing my races with my fastest laps of the race.

Everyone should make sure they closely read the directions, not saying you haven't just a suggestion if you haven't. The not shutting down after setting is important to keeping your settings.

In case anyone is interested I ran a 4.25 ratio on the speedworld track with the 13.5 and med timing.

So I wasn't crazy, I ended up at a 4.29 two weeks ago with the Losi ESC and Losi 13.5 motor, temps in the 160F range.

Larry ,

Great job at the Reedy Race.

Did most of the guys run Nimh or Lipo in 13.5 ?

I was surprised you were geared 4.2 ....I would of thought you would be around 3.9-4.0 for that big track....

Does the Losi run much cooler than the Novak Stuff ?

Alot of the guys were geared in the 4.5 range, I was actually on the high side of people I talked to, but who knows they could of been lying.

My motors were max 160 at any point throughout the weekend.

I think most of the 13.5 guys ran nimh, but some definately ran lipo and were fast with it. The new smc lipo and Track power are both very fast.

Thanks for the speedo Ron! It ran awesome all weekend! Super smooth and plenty of speed.

Heh, just got back from the Reedy Race. Very interesting event with track conditions changing drastically. For me, just couldn't match the changing conditions to my car well enough. Ron was great and I was able to make the switch and go to the new ESC and motor; great change! Very smooth and good power. I tried gearing from 4.1 to 4.4 and with my ESC settings and timing on motor, 4.21 seemed to be the right area, at 4.1 it just seemed to take too long to spool up and lost some infield rip. I ran nimh. It was more of an issue with car and driver than power for me; oh well there's always next time. Thanks again Ron.

Mine would cutout for example, right after exiting a corner at, say 1/4 throttle on to 1/2 throttle. As soon as I would pull full throttle it would cutout, steering too. After releasing the trigger on the tx I would be able to move/steer again. This would keep happening until I recalibrated. Although I must add, I downloaded the newly posted firmware on Losi's site and installed. This seems to have fixed the issue. Either that or my last calibration went better than previous? Not sure.

I just dropped an Xcelorin/10.5 combo into my TC4. Now I am just trying to figure out the gearing to get the most out of it. I know Losi recommends an FDR of 5.4. I'm hoping that's a good starting point as I ordered a new spur and some pinions to get near that FDR. Right now, I'm running a 6.92 as it's all I had during the build. Can't wait to get the new gears in!

OH PLEASE....Spare us!

Yea like anyone would want to stick that time bomb in their expensive car! Stick with a good proven name brand...Orion, SMC, Reedy, etc.

I like the write-up under the listing..:

Quote:
Factory over rated, the ABF battery is certainly no star performer. Our tests indicated this pack can handle 65Amp constant drain with 10sec bursts of up to 88Amp without substantial voltage drop, thus making this pack 17C to 23C.
If youre looking for a budget priced 4000mAh pack and dont require more than 88Amp bursts, then this is an ideal pack.
Its robust PCB and soldering make it great for R/C cars also.
The author has so much trust in the pack...
