A2- Viktor good start from pole, Atsushi able to get by Marc in the first turn, Billy another great start from 7th on the grid, Masami not able to advance much at the start stuck mid pack. Viktor leads the first couple of laps but gets a bit sideways off the corner moving him back 3 spots allowing Atsushi to the lead, Marc second and Billy 3rd followed by Viktor then Masami, Viktor rolls the car the next lap allowing Masami to get by. Marc and Atsushi have contact allowing Billy to take the lead. Marc allows Atsushi to go and take 2nd. Billy holds the lead with Atsushi 2 car lengths behind. Coming across the start finish line to the right left hand combination, Atsushi pulls full throttle then slams on the breaks puts his car right along side Billy’s going into the left had turn and takes the position. An absolutely incredible pass, Billy holds onto 2nd Masami to 3rd place. Masami puts the pressure on Billy with a very aggressive pass going into the highspeed chicane, Masami makes contact with Billy and Masami’s car goes crashing and drops way back in the filed. Viktor takes over the 2nd spot from Billy.
2 min to go and Atsushi still leads with a 1.5 second lead over Viktor. As Atsushi goes down the straight with only 1 min to go. Atsushi’s car just shuts down at the end of the straight allowing Viktor to take the lead. The order remains the same for the final few laps and Viktor takes the win.

Here is the final order

VIKTOR WILCK 19 5:00.201
MARC RHEINARD 19 5:02.483
BILLY EASTON 19 5:03.080
HAYATO MATSUZAKI 19 5:03.514
JILLES GROSKAMP 19 5:03.982
SURIKARN 19 5:04.466
MASAMI HIROSAKA 19 5:05.609
MEEN VEJRAK 19 5:10.967
ATSUSHI HARA 15 3:54.098
HUPO HONIGL 1 0.10.376

We have a strong chance of rain right now, so I made the decision to advance the start of A3 and we will run that after the D3 final.

Thanks,
Scotty

A3 decided the final order. It was the absolute best start I have ever had the privilege of announcing. For the first 2 laps the order was 1-10. Not crashes at the start, it was perfect. Viktor took the lead from Pole and did not give it up the entire race. Marc made a small mistake giving 2nd place to Atsushi. This order stayed for most of the race with a few battles in the middle of the pack. Atsushi continued to add pressure to Viktor but at the 3.30 mark Atsushi again had an electrical problem and shut down going into the S section. Marc took over the 2nd place but could not close on Viktor. This is how it remained for the entire race, Viktor taking the win in A3 giving him 2 wins and the overall win.

Here is the final order from A3

VIKTOR WILCK 20 5:08.019
MARC RHEINARD 20 5:09.286
HAYATO HATSUZAKI 20 5:12.317
JILLES GROSKAMP 20 5:12.566
SURIKARN 20 5:15.286
MASAMI HIROSAKA 19 5:00.648
MEEN VEJRAK 19 5:02.367
HUPO HONIGL 19 5:02.737
BILLY EASTON 19 5:04.870
ATSUSHI HARA 14 3:32.706

OVERALL FINAL RESULTS

VIKTOR WILCK 20PTS
MARC RHEINARD 18 PTS
MASAMI HIOSAKA 15 PTS- gets 3rd because of high best run
HAYATO MATSUZAKI 15PTS
BILLY EASTON 15PTS
JILLES GROSKAMP 13 PTS
SURIKARN 11PTS
ATSUSHI HARA 8 PTS
MEEN VEJRAK 7 PTS
HUPO HONIGL 5 PTS

It was a great event, weather did hold out for the final round and actually now it is sunny and very beautiful.

Track crew did a wonderful job preparing the facility and I am looking forward to being part of what should be a great World championships in November.

Thanks to all of you for following along and I am sure we will have some very good live coverage for the event.

Thanks
Scotty

IFMAR rules say up to 6 cells so it's up to each driver what combination they will choose

@Scotty: thanks for keeping us updated so well.

@nnick: yes, drivers can choose "up to 6 cells" but since there is only one weight limit (1500g) there is no real point in using less then 6 cells.

So much for IFMAR listening to all the manufacturers and racers after all the talk after the last worlds about "having to do something" about speeds/electrical problems

George Bernard Shaw is credited with saying "Those who can't do, teach" ... maybe we can extend this further to say something like "Those who don't know enough about something to do it or teach it should make sensless rules for everyone else to follow"

I think it was ROAR, FAMAR and FEMCA who voted against five cells at a IFMAR meeting in march. Only EFRA voted for. It´s a shame that we can´t have the same rules all over the world. The switch to five cells have worked really well here in Europe.

I agree. Makes you wonder what the electrical problems were that Hara had.

Seems strange, as there was a manufacturer agreement to run 5 cell at the 2008 TITC, which seems to have been regarded as the true warmup for the worlds.

Will be interesting to see if any one does run 5 cell, as many people can turn faster laps with the smoother 5 cell cars.
